"We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so," they said in the statement, according to Good Morning America. "We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support," they added.

The couple reportedly spent a lot of time at home with each other during the pandemic with their blended families, which included Lopez's 13-year-old twins Maximilian "Max" David and Emme Maribel with Marc Anthony and the former MLB player's daughters Ella, 12, and Natasha, 16, with ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis, as per People.

The couple was rumored to have broken up in March but they refuted those claims. "All the reports are inaccurate. We are working through some things," the pair said in a statement in March, as per GMA. They had also revealed in early 2021 that they postponed their wedding twice because of the pandemic.

"We had planned what we really, really wanted to do, [but] I don’t know if we’ll be able to re-create that," Lopez said in January. "We canceled it, and since then we haven’t really talked about it. There’s no rush. We want to do it right when we can do it," she had said.

In March 2021, Lopez had also revealed that after being together for almost five years, they were attending couples therapy. They had been having issues since reports about Rodriguez flirting with a reality TV star were published. He was reportedly chatting with Southern Charm's Madison LeCroy, 30, as per Cosmopolitan. In January, in the preview of the Southern Charm reunion, Craig Conover accused LeCroy of being a "f*cking homewrecker" after she cheated on his friend, Austen Kroll, by having an affair with an unnamed major league baseball player.

"You were flying around the country sleeping with men, married men!" Conover said. "Ex-MLB players. That's what you were doing during quarantine. You know why Austen was at my house? Cause you weren't talking to him! You flew to Miami to f*ck an ex-MLB player."

Fans of the show were able to make the connection that she was seeing Rodriguez, even though he was engaged to Lopez. LeCroy denied the rumors and told Page Six that the 45-year-old "never physically cheated on his fiancée with me." She added that she "talked to him [in a] randomly but not consistent" and "innocent" way.

A source close to the Latino power couple told People that the split was a long time coming. "They are tied in their business worlds so it's not a cut and dry breakup. It's taken a while for them to even think about untangling it all," they said.

The couple was last seen together on March 1 in the Dominican Republic where she's shooting a film.
