Collins, 89, and Smith, 77, were well-known actors on television during the 1980s, appearing in prominent roles in popular TV shows such as 'Dynasty' and 'Charlie's Angels.'
Joan Collins and Jaclyn Smith celebrated the holidays out and about in town. On December 20, 2022, 89-year-old Collins shared a photo of herself and Smith at a lavish party hosted by renowned fashion designer Mark Zunino. The snap showed the icons dressed to the nines for the event. "A fabulous Christmas party! Mark Zunino [and] Rene Horsch with the beautiful Jaclyn Smith... TV leading ladies of the 80s!" Collins captioned the adorable Instagram post.
Another image shared to Instagram by one of the attendees, Barneys New York's in-house makeup artist Patrick Foley, shows Smith posing with friends. "So much fun at Rene and Mark's holiday party last night with two of my closest friends Catherine Bach and Jaclyn Smith, two of the most kind and classy people on the planet," Foley captioned the post.
Collins and Smith, 77, were well-known actors on television during the 1980s, appearing in prominent roles in popular TV shows, reports PEOPLE. Smith played Kelly Garrett in the TV series Charlie's Angels and was the only Angel to appear in all five seasons of the show, which aired from 1976 to 1981.
Smith discussed how the show affected her and American viewers in a 2016 interview. "It was groundbreaking. It was about three emotionally and financially independent women. We shot at beautiful locations with fancy fast cars, and they cared about each other, so there was a heart to the show," Smith explained at the time. "People said we were sexually exploited, but it was a nursery rhyme. We were in a bathing suit at the beach, and if there was a hint of a love scene, it was so proper. I think the producers were smart. They wanted to bring in that younger audience and did want families to watch together."
"We put three women in the forefront and brought a little glamour into it. Even then we were criticized for wearing pretty clothes and having pretty hair. We weren’t trying to downplay our assets," she added. "I think the bonding and friendship of the girls will always be important. That's what the show was about in addition to being crime fighters walking around in pretty clothes. The friendship – that's what makes it lasting."
Meanwhile, Collins played the character of Alexis Colby on the television series Dynasty—which aired from 1981 to 1989—along with Catherine Oxenberg, John Forsythe, and Michael Praed. Long after Dynasty ended, the British actress continued to work in television, portraying the mother of a fictional English queen (Elizabeth Hurley) in the 2015 television series, The Royals.
In the same year, Collins received her damehood from the then-Prince Charles. Collins was presented with the honor in recognition of her charity work, which includes Shooting Star Chase children's hospice. "Not in a billion years did I think I would be made a Dame; it never even crossed my mind," Collins, 89, told reporters at the palace. "It wasn't anything I ever aspired to. I just wanted to be a jobbing actress, a working actor and somebody who could still perform."
