The immense love these two share is palpable. But they still like to acknowledge each other to show their affection.
For years, John Travolta has entertained us with a slew of diverse movies. From playing roles like the charming Danny Zuko in Grease to the quirky but smooth Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction, the actor has certainly earned his numerous awards, including the Golden Globe. But while he might be THE John Travolta to people around the world, he is just Johnny to his wife, Kelly Preston. And for his 66th birthday on February 18, she decided to send him a sweet and short tribute.
Taking to Instagram, the View From the Top actress posted a picture of the two of them with the caption, "Happy Birthday to my loving husband!" However, she wasn't the only one who wanted to wish him, according to Closer Weekly.
Their daughter Ella also posted an adorable picture of her and her dad with the caption, "Happy Birthday to the most selfless, kind and loving man I know. You make the world a better place with every step you take and we are all so lucky to have you in our lives. I love you so much daddy!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️"
But let's start from the beginning, which eventually brought Ella and her siblings into this world. Travolta and Preston first met while doing screen tests for their 1989 comedy, The Experts. At the time, Preston had been "not that happily married" to Kevin Gage. “I was really with the wrong person," she told Andy Cohen on What What Happens Live. Though it was love at first sight for the couple, it wasn't until 1990 that they got together. Then in 1991, on New Year's Eve, Travolta proposed and she said yes.
They've been together since then and have suffered through ups and downs in their lives together. Though they're still as much in love as when they were when they got together, their bond was tested when they lost their 16-year-old son Jett to a seizure which caused him to hit his head on the bathtub resulting in his death while they were all on vacation. “[John] never dreamed of this — their relationship was so close,” said family attorney Mike Ossi, according to People. “He always said ‘I’m happy as long as my kids are happy.’ He is heartbroken. To bury your son is the worst thing you can ever do.”
As much as they were devastated by his loss, they knew they had to move on and stay together. But they made sure that they never took their relationship for granted and always took out time for each other. In September 2019, the couple celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary.
“To my dearest Johnny, the most wonderful man I know. You have given me hope when I have felt lost, loved me patiently and unconditionally … made me laugh harder than any other human being possible … shared the most beautiful highs and at times lows,” the Jerry Maguire actress wrote in an Instagram post to her husband. She continued, “You’re a dream Daddio and make life so much fun! I trust my love with you implicitly … with you I know I will always be okay no matter what happens … I love you forever and completely. Happy 28th Anniversary!” Travolta wanted to reciprocate the gesture so he too posted on Instagram with the caption, “Happy Anniversary to my wonderful wife, Kelly.”
Well, looks like John Travolta is certainly loved immensely. Here's to many more happy years together for him and his family.
