When it comes to women who have achieved huge success despite having a difficult childhood, Julia Roberts is one name that comes to mind. Despite facing immense trauma when she was just a child, Roberts has managed to overcome the challenges and establish herself as one of the most successful actresses in the industry based on her talent and affable personality. Some might say this could be because of the person who raised her to be the strong woman she is today, her mother.

When she started a family with her husband Daniel Moder, Roberts found herself turning towards her mom for advice and marveling at her for bringing them up despite the hurdles she faced. “I was like, ‘Mom, how did you do this?'” the actress recalled. “And instead of saying, ‘Well, you just have to apply yourself and it takes effort,’ she goes, ‘It’s called daycare, honey.’ And I was so appreciative and so grateful she didn’t tell me some sage, b$llshit story about what it’s like to be a great mother.”
