Kate, the Princess of Wale, paid respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II, during the lying-in-state ceremony on Wednesday in Westminster Hall. According to a body language specialist, Katia Loisel, Kate seemed "highly distressed" during the service as she stood next to Prince William, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle reports Express UK

She told 7News that William and Kate were "highly distressed" as they battled to "hold it together" during the arduous parade. Harry and Meghan held hands during the service, demonstrating their "desire to connect and be close to one another." Kate and Prince Harry have been newly appointed as the Prince and Princess of Wales, upon the demise of her late majesty.

Loisel said, "The more pronounced the lip compression, as is the case with Prince William - his lips pressed together, rolling inwards until they have completely disappeared - indicate extreme levels of discomfort and stress." The image of William and Kate looking miserable while Harry and Meghan stood behind them and exchanged glances offered an "interesting non-verbal perspective," according to her analysis of the image.

She added, "Prince Harry and Meghan use both contact tie signs, such as holding hands, and non-contact tie signs, such as postural echoing, their bodies orientated inwards towards one another, and mutual gaze in a mutual display of support and reassurance." She further insisted, "In contrast, clearly grief-stricken and lost in their own thoughts, Prince William and Princess Kate keep a formal distance, in keeping with the formality and seriousness of the event, and Prince William's position as heir to the throne."

Loisel also offered an analysis of a video when the brothers and their wives took a roundabout of the Windsor castle on September 10. Although the couples didn't engage much, many believed that their presence offered them some hope that their shattered relationship would be repaired, per CheatSheet. Loisel discussed her analysis of a particular instance in which Kate "appeared to look through" Meghan; at first, she gave Meghan a cold glare before giving a smile and waving to the crowd.

She told Cloud7, "Quite unlike the confident Meghan we know, Meghan appeared ill at ease during this encounter, which is not surprising given the recent criticism that she has faced."Unlike Prince William, who appeared to "include and connect with" Harry and Meghan, Kate was "reluctant to interact." Most noticeably, Kate avoided making eye contact with Meghan during the occasion.

After Kate's icy stare, "Meghan appeared clearly taken aback and uncertain, stepping sideways, orientating her body away from Kate, shifting her weight from foot, her head slightly stooped," according to Loisel. She paused a little before joining the rest of the royals in a wave.

"Meghan’s hand lifted hesitantly as if to wave, but stopped mid-air, rather pausing to adjust her hair, her head and gaze lowered, before looking up and giving a quick wave, her arm coming back to rest in front of her body in a partial arm barrier, which is what we see in this photo," the expert noted.
