Being a member of the British Royal family sounds like a dream, but it makes for a complicated life. Take royal titles, for example. Some are given a title by birth, some by marriage, and some titles change when there's a change in hierarchy.
Basically, the next big change in royal titles will occur when the Queen passes her crown down to the next head of the royal family. So, when Charles—who is currently the Prince of Wales—becomes the King, it is expected that he'll pass that moniker down to William, who will no longer go by the Duke of Cambridge.
Well, this does mean that Kate Middleton will also no longer go by her title as the Duchess of Cambridge. In fact, it is very likely that she will be called the Princess of Wales.
Yes, the title sounds familiar because Middleton is not the first woman to hold that title. It was previously held by her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. Technically the title could have been passed on to Camilla Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall, but she turned down the title out of respect for Diana, adds Cosmopolitan.
As for when Kate becomes the Princess of Wales, it sure is going to be a "bittersweet moment" a source revealed. “It’s hard to see it not happening,” they told the Telegraph, according to Express.
“I’m sure it’ll be a bit of a bittersweet moment. This is her [Diana’s] son and his wife, so in some ways, it will be coming full circle – but it will also be a poignant reminder of what we all lost.”
Even if the moment might be an emotional one for Prince William, royal experts and members of the public all seem to think that 40-year-old Middleton is more than ready to take on her new role, per Marie Claire.
"She is always seen with a very open and honest smile denoted by visible crow’s feet around her eyes," body language expert Darren Stanton previously said. "Her whole face is engaged when smiling and it’s clear she has developed a massive confidence not only as a royal and a public figure but as a parent too."
Only time can tell what Middleton's titles will be, but one thing is for sure—no matter what role or title she is entrusted with, she's going to do her absolute best at it.
