Winslet and Rocknroll got married in 2012, and welcomed Bear Blaze, their first child together, in 2013.
Love comes in all shapes and sizes, and you can be smitten by someone after meeting them for the first or the hundredth time. Some say it all depends on fate.
And as fate had it, Kate Winslet was destined to meet the love of her life, her third husband, while she was fleeing for her life from a house fire. There have been so many movies made on love stories where two strangers find themselves together due to an unforeseen circumstance and end up falling in love. Winslet's love story is nothing short of a movie, to be honest.
“I believed it because exactly the same thing happened to me when I met my husband,” she says of Ned Rocknroll, 44, her husband of almost a decade, according to PEOPLE. “He was a complete stranger, we met, and then the next day the house burnt down.”
In 2011, Winslet was on a holiday with her kids, Mia and Joe, vacationing on Necker Island, a private island owned by billionaire Richard Branson, when a fire broke out.
At the time, Branson's nephew, Rocknroll—also known as Edward Abel Smith—was staying on the island in an adjacent residence.
"He was the only dude to have a head torch and a pair of shoes, everyone else left everything behind," the Titanic star recounted to ET Online. "I took a bra and passports and my children."
"So I married him!" she added, laughing. "I was like, 'I'll go for the guy with a head torch!'"
Shortly after the blaze, Branson informed the media that "around 20 people were in the house and they all managed to get out and they are all fine," according to Harper's Bazaar.
Winslet and Rocknroll got married in 2012, and welcomed Bear Blaze, their first child together, in 2013. This was a fairytale wedding for Winslet, who had been married twice before.
“I believe strangers can meet and their lives can change so much that they simply can’t go back to being the person they once were,” says Winslet. “[Ned and I] very much went through that together. Even now, I often times find myself looking for an item of clothing or a book or something and I go, ‘Where have I put that?’ And Ned will look at me and go, ‘Did it get burnt in the fire?’”
Winslet was first married to Jim Threapleton from 1998 to 2001. They welcomed daughter Mia in 2000.
After their divorce, she met and married movie director, Sam Mendes in 2003, and the pair welcomed their child, Joe, the same year. They subsequently separated in 2010, finalizing their divorce the following year.
