Suri Cruise is the constant in her mother, Katie Holmes' life since the latter left Tom Cruise. Holmes and Suri have an unbreakable bond.
It is heartbreaking to watch a child grow up without a parent, be it the mother or the father, they potentially grow up without experiencing a kind of love that can only be provided by the parent who chose to abandon them. But at the same time, it is also heartwarming to watch the other parent do everything in their power to make sure their baby does not feel the absence. It can end up forging an unbreakable bond between the two. Some children are lucky enough to have parents who are present and ready to be their rock at all times.
Katie Holmes, the ex-wife of scientologist and actor, Tom Cruise never remarried after their divorce. She has instead chosen to focus her time on being the mother their daughter, Suri deserves. Now 14 years old, Suri Cruise has become the constant in her life, even though it has been almost a decade since Tom Cruise has seen his own daughter.
Holmes has also become the kind of mother who showers her child with attention and love. The devoted single mom has been living in New York with her child since her divorce, and recently she showed the world a slice from her life.
The Batman Begins actress shared a rare video of her daughter running through an empty street during the pandemic. Suri's joy de Vivre is obvious from the way she leaps while running through the lanes.
"I love this. She's having the time of her life. To be a kid again," one wrote, as per Hello! Magazine. While another commented: "I can imagine you are a fantastic mother." A third added, "The joy a child brings to their mother is infinite."
Suri and her father are reportedly estranged and he hasn't seen her since she was 6 years old. As unfortunate as that is, it looks like the Dawson's Creek actress has done a wonderful job at making sure her little girl grows up feeling content and loved. Unlike many celebrities, Holmes is quite protective of Suri and rarely ever shares photos of her daughter on social media but doesn't forget to celebrate the special moments in her child's life.
In April 2020, she shared a photo of Suri on her 14th birthday. "Happy Birthday Sweetheart!!!!!!! I am so blessed to be your mom. May this year be incredible," she wrote.
The actress tries hard to give her daughter a normal life away from the spotlight her life had been under since her relationship with Cruise became public. Her divorce from Cruise and her break up with Jamie Foxx, both made headlines. However, she tried to ensure that it doesn't affect her child.
Instead, she devoted herself to raising her daughter even further. In InStyle's April cover story, Holmes shared that she is proud of the person her daughter is becoming. "I've met Suri only once so far, but I was struck by how open she was," InStyle's Editor-in-Chief said to Holmes in the interview.
"I love her so much," Holmes responded. "My biggest goal has always been to nurture her into her individuality. To make sure she is 100% herself and strong, confident, and able. And to know it. She came out very strong—she's always been a strong personality. She'll pick an activity and work her butt off until she's really good at it. Then she's like, 'Okay, I'm going to try the next thing.' She's very focused and a hard worker. I have to say, I did recently see some fan site [about her] posted when she was a baby, and it was very intense. We were followed a lot when she was little. I just wanted her outside, so I would walk her around to find parks at, like, 6 in the morning when nobody would see us. But there's one video where I'm holding her—she was two at the time—and she starts waving at the cameras. She's pretty special," said the delighted mom.
Suri's father reportedly doesn't meet her as his religion (Scientology) doesn't allow him that. "Tom hasn’t seen or even called Suri in about three years," a family source told Us Weekly in 2016. Another insider said, "Tom has no relationship with Suri."
The Top Gun actor's family life has been fraught with conflict as the father-of-three reportedly didn't let his other former wife, Nicole Kidman, have a relationship with their adopted children. His older children, Isabella, 26, and Connor, 24, who are also Scientologists, are close to their father but don't have a bond with Kidman.
