Romance in this world and in this reality is not easy. The hundreds of romantic books that we've read and the classic movies that we've watched, all point to one thing - true love. And finding true love is not as easy as it looks. But Katy Perry seems to have found her constant.
Perry's relationships have never been a secret. Her very fairytale-like and luxurious wedding in India to comedian Russell Brand to a very public divorce, the world has seen it all. She revealed that her marriage with Brand was quite demanding. The only reason pushing her to keep is alive was her love for him. Even though she was crushed between her failing marriage and her rising career, she never gave up.
Referring to the documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me, she told LA Times, "He started making jokes about me and he didn’t know I was in the audience, because I had come to surprise him at one of his shows. Hysterical to a point. I mean, I have to claim my own responsibility in things. I do admit that I was on the road a lot. Although I invited him time and time again, and I tried to come home as much as I possibly could. You saw that in the movie."
After citing irreconcilable differences, the couple parted ways for good. In 2016, Perry finally met the one she was meant to be with all this while, actor Orlando Bloom. Sources told the US Weekly that the couple were “extremely flirty and whispering to each other” when they met at an awards after-party. According to one of the insiders, “He would lean in to whisper into her ear and touch the small of her back as they chatted.” There was definitely as undeniable chemistry between the two and after 10 months of being in the love, they decided to part ways in 2017.
According to a source it was Perry who initiated the split, reported E!. "Katy pulled the plug. It was a few events that happened over the past few months. They both still love each other very much, though, and getting back together could happen once they have some space." The two decided to keep their differences apart for the sake of Perry's relationship with Bloom's son, Flynn. "Katy has built a really strong connection with Flynn. It's sad but it will work out how it's supposed to," added the source.
In an interview with Canadian radio station SiriusXM CBC, Perry opened about her mental health back in 2017 after experiencing a slump in her career and breaking up with Bloom. She said, "My career was on this trajectory when it was going up, up and up and then I had the smallest shift, not that huge from an outside perspective. But for me it was seismic." She added, "I had given so much out, and it literally broke me in half. I had broken up with my boyfriend, who is now my baby daddy-to-be and then I was excited about flying high off the next record. But the validation did not make me high, and so I just crashed," as reported by Daily Mail.
The Daisies singer revealed that all that she went through helped her evolve as a person. She said, "Gratitude is probably the thing that saved my life, because if I did not find that I would have wallowed in my own sadness and probably just jumped." She continued, "But I found the ways to be grateful. If it gets really, really hard I walk around and say, 'I am grateful, I am grateful', even though I am in a sh***y mood."
She admitted that her faith also helped her recover during the lowest point in her life, "It was so important for me to be broken so that I could find my wholeness in a whole different way. And be more dimensional than just living my life like a thirsty pop star all the time," she said.
In 2018, on the season finale of American Idol, Perry revealed that she was not single and made her appearance at the Gala for the Global Ocean with Bloom. The two looked smitten and absolutely in love. Perry announced her engagement to the Pirates of the Caribbean star through an adorable picture of the two with a ruby and diamond ring in 2019. She later spoke about the romantic proposal in detail on Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp.
She said, "I got on a helicopter and he asked me to marry him, and then we landed on this building and then went downstairs and my family and friends were there and the most flowers you’ve ever seen.” She continued, "And I was like 'Oh my God!' Anyways, it’s great. He’s great. I love him very much.”
We cannot wait for the couple to start the next chapter in their lives with the arrival of their baby girl!
