"I wanted to do it in a very organic way and find the right song," he said.
Keith Urban began his second Las Vegas residency show last week, and he's allowing his fans to relive the past. Video from Urban and Nicole Kidman's June 2006 wedding flashed on a large screen as Urban and his band performed 2010's Without You, offering fans a glimpse of the beautiful wedding.
The song was released on his Get Closer album over a decade ago, and a giant screen projected rare scenes from the wedding. Images flashed across the screen, including name cards with "Keith" and "Nicole" inscribed, a row of tea candles, the couple's rings, and a picture of the bride and groom wearing their bridal attire. "I wanted to do it in a very organic way and find the right song," he told PEOPLE exclusively. "It was really more about choosing to do that song, Without You, and how that felt like the right time for that."
Naturally, Urban first sought permission from his wife, who only allowed him to broadcast "just a little bit" of footage from that day. "I don't know if that's her favorite song, but it was the right one for the footage," he said.
The couple, who has been married since June 2006, still have excellent chemistry and romance, per PEOPLE. They turned a few heads at the Oscars 2023 red carpet recently, as they walked in matching attire and engaged in a lot of PDA. The actress, in a gorgeous Balenciaga black gown, and her boyfriend, who was dressed in a black formal tuxedo outfit, cuddled and kissed while posing for pictures. The Northman actor held his face close for a kiss as the Somebody Like You vocalist gave Kidman a tender smile and caressed her.
Urban's Las Vegas Residency has been getting a lot of love. Urban performs many of his most well-known hits during the nearly two-hour performance, but he also includes a few songs that he hasn't performed in over a decade. It took him three months to decide on the set list because he frequently changed it. As a result, it was somewhat of a moving target.
A fan asked that he perform Air Supply's All Out of Love, and the country superstar obliged after telling the fan that he hadn't sung the song in nearly four decades. "I couldn't believe I remembered the words. I probably haven't sung that song since I was 16," he said. "I have a sick memory for song lyrics. It's ridiculous, like, pretty ridiculous. I literally will not have played a song in 20 years and I'll pick up a guitar and start playing it and the words just come. I'm literally going, 'How do I know these words?' But I'll lose my car keys just like that," the CMT-nominated artist continued while snapping his fingers. "So it's selective memory."
