Kelly Clarkson & Husband to Divorce After 7 Years of Marriage | They've Grown Apart Over the Years, Sources Say

The couple had been having issues for a while and had been clashing, and being locked in together just made it worse.

The happiest relationships can turn sour when we are not paying close attention to it. There could be many reasons why two partners decide to go separate ways, and one of the reasons could be that they don't agree on some fundamental things. It may be easy to pinpoint the moment when you decided that things must end for you to be happy but it's hard to find out what was the beginning of the end.

Since U Been Gone singer Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce from husband of almost seven years, Brandon Blackstock, on June 4 citing irreconcilable differences. The 38-year-old singer filed for divorce in Los Angeles and the couple's separation date is "TBD", according to documents obtained by PEOPLE. The Texan singer is asking for joint legal and physical custody for her two children, River, 5, and Remington, 4, with him, according to The Blast. The seven-year-itch seems to be true for this couple as they have gone to course with Clarkson asking that their prenuptial agreement be enforced as it would outline their custody agreement.

She is also asking to terminate Brandon's ability to seek spousal support. He is country superstar Reba McEntire's stepson so it is highly likely that he doesn't need the money anyway. Sources have told The Blast that there is no drama behind their reason for splitting as no one has cheated. Their "amicable" divorce has blindsided their friends though. One source revealed that it never seemed that they were having issues and they were shocked that Clarkson filed for divorce.

Both of them will be paying for their own attornies. They will also be sorting their properties later just like the date of their separation. The family had been spending a lot of time together lately as they were shacked up at their ranch in Montana during quarantine with their two kids, and Clarkson's stepchildren. However, they had filed their divorce motions in May when they put their family home in Los Angeles on the market. Their Encino mega-mansion has eight-bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and two half baths. They are asking for $10 million for the home. The Already Gone singer had taken a million dollars off the asking price of her Tennessee lakeside mansion, listing the property for $7.49 million in December 2019, which she first bought in 2012.

She reportedly hated having to be in lockdown with her soon-to-be ex-husband, one source told Life & Style. "They haven’t been getting along for a while and clashed on so many levels. They’ve grown apart over the years and being in lockdown together heightened their problems," adds the insider.  Kelly "couldn’t take it anymore," says the source.

Previously, the talk show host had said that she wants more children while her husband doesn't. As she interviewed celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, the chef had shown off his 13-month-old son Oscar, which made the singer say, "Oh my gosh! Do not do this to me. I so want another child, and my husband is like: "No! We have four!"' Blackstock has two kids, 13-year-old son Seth and 17-year-old daughter Savannah with his ex-wife Melissa Ashworth.

"You get baby fever when you see them and you're like: "Oh, I miss the chubby little legs and the little face,"' she gushed, according to Daily Mail. Clarkson's wish to have more kids may be surprising to her fans as she had mentioned previously that she doesn't want a third child. The couple has had procedures done to stop them from having children.

In 2017, Kelly said on Cubby And Carolina In The Morning, "Oh God, those tubes are gone! That's blasphemy. We don't even speak of it. We're both fixed in our own ways, yet still, we'll probably get pregnant again somehow." "I always feel bad because I have friends who have a hard time getting pregnant and I'm just like guys, I have the worst pregnancies ever, it can't happen again!" she said, as per Daily Mail.

Blackstock, a country music manager, and Clarkson started dating in 2011 and got married in 2013. The usually open singer had revealed about their private lives as well. She had been asked by The Voice winner Brynn Cartelli what she did before going to bed, and the Breakaway singer was honest in her answer. “Well, Brynn, I was single for many years, so … I have children," she began. "And how one makes children is generally what I do before bed. That’s not a lie. That’s real. And it’s not weird! It’s natural!" she said, as per GoodHousekeeping.

From the outside, the couple seemed to have a strong relationship and they have not commented on what went wrong in their marriage.
