Quarantining together made their already tense relationship even worse.
The year 2020 has been one hell of a ride for everyone and looks like Hollywood celebrities weren't spared from its wrath either. From the former Baywatch star, Pamela Anderson's divorce from Jon Peters just 12 days after they tied the knot, to Meghan Fox's split after a 10-year long marriage, "happily ever afters" in Hollywood are sometimes really just fantasies.
Amongst these, the Miss Independent singer, Kelly Clarkson's divorce from husband of almost seven years, came as a shock to everyone. The 38-year-old Texan singer filed for divorce from Brandon Blackstock, 43, on June 4 after quarantining with him in their Montana house and realizing that she's had enough. A source close to them claimed that Clarkson "knew she just needed to follow her heart and finally realized divorce was her only option," according to Chron.com. The two had been inseparable after they met during the 2012 Super Bowl. After 9 months of dating, they decided to tie the knot. Blackstock was also her manager.
If sources are to be believed, the couple had the split coming for a long time. According to a source of Entertainment Tonight, "Kelly and Brandon had been having problems for several months and were making a conscious effort to work things out. They both hoped quarantining away from L.A. in Montana would help them work things out in their marriage, but instead, the change in environment was actually detrimental." According to a source, as reported by People, "They both work so hard. It's nearly impossible to enjoy each other, especially with the children needing constant attention."
The Voice coach is known to be very down to earth and has been very open about her relationship with her now-estranged husband at all times. In an interview with Glamour UK, Kelly admitted that she felt quite overwhelmed with everything happening with and around her. Her statement clearly pointed out a lot of underlying issues. She said, "Honestly, I have been on an emotional roller coaster. This has been really hard as a working parent because I'm still doing all the same jobs. It's been exhausting honestly, cooking every meal, and cleaning nonstop after toddlers and teenagers! Everybody's learning from home now and the teaching! So, everything has been crazy."
In the interview, which touched on the emotional side of the singer, she admitted that being a working woman and a mother had its tolls. She said, "I've definitely reminded people that I work with, I'm doing the best I can. 'You hired a mom and I'm not an absentee mom. I'm a full-on mom.' I'm literally holding down so many things right now. Not only jobs, but even things where we usually had a lot more help. We are fortunate, so I'm not complaining in that sense. I already have abandonment issues, so I don't want to pass those down." The Piece by Piece singer has revealed before that she never shared a great relationship with her father. Her parents' divorce and her father abandoning her and her family when she was just six years old left lasting impressions on her and were the inspiration to the heart-wrenching lyrics of Because of You.
As reported by Us the American Idol Season 1 winner had listed their California and Tennesse homes for sale just a few months before filing for divorce. While the 20,121-square-foot Tennesse residence, built in 2007, was put up for sale in December 2019, her 9,839-square-foot, a wood-trimmed luxurious mansion in Los Angeles was listed in May 2020. You can't ignore but notice the connection between the events.
During an Ask Me Anything session (AMA) on the Kelly Clarkson Show, the singer had revealed some steamy information about the couple, which made things look like they had never been any better for the two of them. But in an interview with her guest Gordan Ramsey, as reported by Us, she mentioned her desire to be a mother again. When Ramsey's 14-month-old son crashed the show, she said, "I so want another child, and my husband is like, ‘No! We have four!" She added, "You get baby fever when you see them and you’re like, ‘Oh, I miss the chubby little legs and the little face." The estranged couple has four kids, two of their own and two from Blackstock's previous marriage. Kelly is demanding joint custody for River, 5, and Remington, 4, with Blackstock, while Blackstock has a 13-year-old son Seth and 17-year-old daughter Savannah with his ex-wife Melissa Ashworth.
The Stronger singer was recently seen walking her dog, Henry, for the first time after filing the divorce. According to Us, after returning from Montana, back in action with her talk show, Clarkson decided to ditch her wedding ring. She revealed that she's back in L.A and filming from her residence. Apparently, her crew members helped her set up her studio at her residence with the ripped off pieces from her show's set. The missing wedding ring and the shift from Montana to L.A comes days after the news of the couple ending their 7-year-old marriage vows.
