The Beverly Hill 90210 actor had our hearts then and even after his passing, he has it now. His charm and kindness will always live on.
Just thinking of Beverly Hills, 90210 and Riverdale can bring a pang to our hearts, reminding us once again that the kindhearted star Luke Perry is no longer with us. The actor lost his life after suffering a stroke at 52. Since the day he passed, on March 5 2019, fans from across the globe have come forward time and again to express their feelings about his loss. The 2019 Emmy Awards decided to honor him with a touching tribute.
During the ceremony on Sunday night (21 Sept), actress Regina King took to the stage to introduce the In Memoriam tribute, in honor of all the stars that we lost in the last year. She said, "Tonight as we celebrate the very best of the past television season, we also take the time to remember the many legends we lost this year," said the 48-year-old star.
"Although they may be gone, their legacies now endure," she added, according to People.
Singer Halsey, performed a rendition of Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time, as photographs of the late actors were displayed on the big screen. Other stars that were honored included Marvel comics creator Stan Lee, TV icon Valerie Harper, actor Cameron Boyce, Gloria Vanderbilt, and Carol Channing to name a few.
While many took to social media to express their grief, including Luke Perry's daughter, this live on-stage tribute made everyone emotional all over again. Many loved him for his role as Dylan McKay in Beverly Hills, 90210; there's also a new generation of people who remember him as Fred Andrews from the popular CW show, Riverdale.
While the former show honored him by coming back with a 90210 reboot, the latter has decided to honor him in the season four premiere of the show. According to US News, the episode is "a moving piece" and "a tribute to our friend and a well-respected actor," said Mark Pedowitz, president of The CW.
"We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry," a statement from Luke's Riverdale, Warner Bros., and CW family said following his passing, according to Entertainment Online. "A beloved member of the Riverdale, Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all. A father figure and mentor to the show's young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke's family during this most difficult time."
