On Diane Ladd's 87th birthday, Dern described her actress mother as the "best darn actor EVER!"
Laura Dern is an amazing actress herself but she says there's someone even better: her actress mother Diane Ladd! The 55-year-old Marriage Story star shared a tribute to her mother on her 87th birthday. "Happy birthday, goddess mama!" Dern wrote in an Instagram post. "You are my endless inspiration and my favorite buddy to go for a swim with!! And just the best darn actor EVER!"
In another post gushing about her mom, the star wrote alongside a photo of her from her younger days, "Look at this magical goddess. How did I get so lucky that she signed up to be my amazing mama! I am so blessed. Thank you, Mom, for your art/dedication/passion/faith/enthusiasm/work ethic and trust in humanity. I love you with all my heart and soul."
According to Good Morning America, Ladd began her career 70 years ago in 1957 and is still working to this day. She is currently starring in the television series Chesapeake Shores airing on the Hallmark Channel. Her daughter is an acclaimed actress herself having won an Academy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and five Golden Globe Awards over the course of her career which has spanned over five decades. The two are a force to reckon with it in Hollywood.
Last year, Dern surprised her mom, who has appeared in over 100 films and TV shows, with a cake and friends who joined in on the celebration. "Nothing like waking up my cutie mama on her birthday surrounded by friends and cakes! I love you beyond measure, amazing Diane!!!!!!! I'm such a blessed daughter," she wrote in a post.
Dern previously opened up to ELLE about how her family, including Ladd, has been a huge source of strength and support during the tough days of the pandemic. She called her "family" an unexpected source of comfort during those times adding,"Sharing the privilege of what seem like the little moments, cooking a meal with my kids, learning to cook together, sharing stories," she said. "My Mom had pneumonia and specifically was high-risk in terms of her lungs. So, being so protective of her, it was a very locked-down time, like so many of us with a high-risk family member. Watching how my children rallied in being so protective of her was really gorgeous, and watching movies and taking care of each other. And also frankly, diving into educating myself more, and miraculously."
