Trigger warning: Contains descriptions of violence against children that might be distressing to some.
In a shocking incident, a 6-year-old girl from Pasadena, Texas, was shot fatally by a male relative because he got angry. The reason for his anger was also something that the child had no control over. The 6-year-old was identified as Laurionne Walker and the man is Raymeon Means, 35. This is not the first tragedy the family went through recently.
In an unrelated incident, the 6-year-old's three cousins and their mother, Porschia Branch, were killed in Spring, Texas less than a week ago. A drunk driver had hit their car in what ended up being a 7-vehicle crash. Another 35-year-old man Daniel Canada is being held after he "snuff(ed) a family out of existence," reported Click2Houston.
Damien House, the father of the children who died in the crash, is Laurionne's maternal uncle. It was not known how Raymeon was related to the little girl he killed over a clogged toilet. He is being held on a capital murder charge and without a bond. He had fled the apartment after the shooting and was later apprehended and taken to jail, according to ABC 13.
The 35-year-old reportedly flew into a rage after a mishap in the toilet. He had then gone around the apartment complex asking other neighbors if water had spilled into their homes. "He knocked on the door and he was like, "Oh, can you check if you have water coming down because the little girl clogged the toilet,'" neighbor Mauricio Alvarez told Click2Houston.
A few minutes later, the neighbor heard the man arguing with other residents in the apartment complex. "[The family member] was banging on a car. The woman upstairs had a knife and they were saying, 'Get out of here. Get out of here!'" said Mauricio. "[Later] he went running upstairs, and we heard like four to five shots, and he started running, and we started hearing screams," he added.
The 6-year-old girl was shot multiple times and was taken to the Bayshore Hospital where she later died. The police in Pasadena had responded to reports of shooting at the apartment complex around 11.30 am. They performed CPR on the little girl before she was taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, she didn't survive and died tragically young.
The girl's mother had left the relative to care for her daughter while she went to attend the vigil for Porschia and her three children. As their aunt, she wanted to be there to honor them and lend support to her brother.
"I'm at a loss for words right now," Earline House, Walker's grandmother, told Click2Houston. "My granddaughter was still a baby. She got shot twice in the chest this morning."
After the incident, Damien offered some words of comfort to his sister, Laurionne's mother. "All I can say to my sister, ‘I’m here for her,’ he was quoted as saying by NBC News. "I can imagine what she’s going through because we’re all going through the same thing," he added.
If the 35-year-old is convicted, he will face either the death penalty or life in prison.
A friend of the family is raising funds through GoFundMe for them so they could give the little girl a funeral.
