The final straw was when Jackson appeared on TV and spoke ill about his late father-in-law.
Lisa Marie Presley first met Michael Jackson when she was just seven years old. However, it wasn't until 1992 that Lisa Marie actually connected with him, according to Smooth Radio.
When Lisa Marie was 20 years old, she got married to Danny Keogh. They remained married from 1988 to 1994, and just 20 days after their divorce, she got married to the King of Pop.
While they were friends, Jackson began confiding in her, and that brought them closer, as per New York Post. It was during this time investigations of the claims of Jackson molesting a 13-year-old boy were ongoing.
“I got into this whole ‘I’m going to save you’ thing. I thought all that stuff he was doing – philanthropy and the children thing and all this stuff – was awesome . . . OK. Hello. I was delusionary. I got some romantic idea in my head I could save him and we could save the world.”
Eventually, on May 26, 1994, Jackson and Lisa Marie eloped to La Vega in the Dominican Republic, where they tied the knot, reports Us Weekly. There they had a 15-minute ceremony and were both dressed in all black. But, while Lisa Marie was more than happy to be married, her mother, Priscilla Presley, had her doubts.
Even the public thought the whole wedding was a farce, given how soon she got married after her first one ended. But she was in love with him, and she revealed that years after their split. "I can't tell you what his intentions were, but I can tell you I absolutely fell in love with him and fell into this whole thing which I'm not proud of now."
She felt like she had to protect him and never thought he would use her, especially to maintain an image in the media after being accused of sexual assault. “I was really in this lioness thing with him – I wanted to protect him. Naive as hell. I never thought for a moment someone like him could actually use me.” However, his mind was “constantly at work, calculating, manipulating. And he scared me like that,” she said.
Towards the end of their marriage, he would disappear for weeks together, she added.
Once, while speaking to Oprah Winfrey, Lisa Marie shared that Jackson was not a bad person but he just did not know any better. She stated that she felt "disposable" around him, similar to how she felt around her father.
The final straw was when Jackson appeared on TV and spoke ill about his late father-in-law. They got divorced in 1996, but it was said that they remained friends until his death in 2006.
