Getting out of a relationship that hurts us even if it's decades-old is a brave step. There may not be many people clapping for us but we have to be our own cheerleader. It is natural to be overwhelmed and heartbroken when a marriage breaks but how we go forward from there can define the rest of our lives. For Little People Big World's Amy Roloff, that moment came in 2015, when she and her husband Matt Roloff decided to get divorced.

For Amy, this was a difficult phase as the separation happened after 27 years of being married and raising a family. After spending more than half your life with your husband, it can be hard for anyone to move towards a new life. In her memoir, A Little Me, she also mentioned that she felt betrayed by him as she believed that he was cheating on her. She saw him exchanging suggestive texts and photos with a Roloff Farms manager, who she presumes was Caryn Chandler, his current girlfriend.

Knowing this made her feel terrible about herself and eventually, they broke up. Until she could express her hurt, she felt that going separate ways was not an option.

"I kept quiet over the years,” Amy wrote in her memoir, according to CheatSheet. "I didn’t even think about divorce; I didn’t want it to be an option. I’ve never felt so alone, hurt, and betrayed in my life."

Since she had experienced this difficult process, many of her fans asked her for advice on it. During a June 25 Instagram Live, she defined the divorce as a "loss." "At least, for me, it was like a loss," Amy explained. "Divorce was hard on me. I did consider it a loss, but I was beginning to be at a point, it’s like, you know what? But I still like me. I am still good. And I am going to go out there and figure it out," she said.

One follower asked her about how she could support her mother, who was going through a similar situation. Amy recommended her to "give her [mother] a little grace. … Don’t condemn her, but help her through that process. … Give her a little support and encouragement. But I don’t think it’s your job to care for her or fix it." She added that "divorce is a business" and it needs to be dealt with urgently for anyone to move ahead in life. "And then you have a whole new palette in front of you... How do you want to create and make it to be? … It’s not the end, it’s a new chapter and new beginning!" she said, showing a way of hope to others.

On one of her Instagram posts, someone commented, "You give me hope for love after a brutal divorce." To this, the mother-of-four revealed her mantra. "Hang in there. Most of all don’t stop believing in you,” Amy told her fan. “You matter, have value and purpose. A few close girlfriends helped me along the way, still do, and my faith. Keep liking you you’re worth it," she added.

Amy is now engaged to be married in the summer of 2021. Her fiance, Chris Marek, and she dated for several years before deciding to take this serious step. While she once thought she wouldn't find love again, it didn't take her too long to find another partner who would cherish her completely. The couple is currently busy filming for the next season of the reality TV show and fixing up their home. While Chris and she don't live together fulltime, they spend a lot of nights together. She wanted to settle into her new home before he moved in. However, that hasn't stopped him from laying tiles or putting together a table for the backyard.

Her fiance of 10 months and she recently celebrated the Fourth of July together at home. "I hope you have a safe and healthy celebration. So many came before us that gave so much of themselves for what we have and celebrate for. Thank you. We’re far from perfect or getting it right. We can’t give up though on hope, freedom, love, compassion, faith, serving and the desire to keep pushing for what is good for all- yes everyone. Happy birthday America," she wrote in a post on Instagram.
