Man Dives Into Sea to Rescue Engagement Ring After It Slips From His Hand During Romantic Sunset Proposal | "She Still Said Yes"

"I saw it bounce off the deck and hit the water and thankfully it floated for a split second, giving me the chance to grab it as I dove in," said Clyne.

A Florida man went to great lengths (quite literally!) to retrieve an engagement ring he had dropped into the ocean. In a video shared by Scott Clyne of Sarasota, Florida, on Facebook, the 35-year-old pulled out a ring box from his shorts pocket to propose to his then-girlfriend Suzie Tucker on a boat against a beautiful sunset backdrop. As he got down on one knee, what could have been a beautiful proposal turned out to incite a moment of panic. As he got down, the box holding the precious ring fell into the water. Clyne wasted no time and quickly dived right in.

Luckily he managed to retrieve the ring and still went through with the proposal. As he held the box up victoriously, his 32-year-old girlfriend had a good laugh. Clyne shared the video on Facebook, writing: This is 100% real. 100% my luck. 100% will never forget…. His friend who was recording the proposal helped get him back up by taking his sunglasses and grabbing the ring from him and putting it safely on the boat.

Fortunately, Suzie appeared to say yes by responding to his gesture with laughter and a kiss. Clyne said that the reason the ring fell was that it got caught at the top of his shorts pocket. “I had the ring in my back pocket and when I went to reach for it, the corner of the ring box got caught on the top of my pocket and slipped out of my hands,” Clyne told the New York Post.

“Everything was an absolute blur from that point on! All I remember thinking was ‘this can’t be happening!’ and next thing I knew I was in the water. I didn’t hesitate to jump in because I envisioned it sinking quickly and I wasn’t taking a chance. I saw it bounce off the deck and hit the water and thankfully it floated for a split second, giving me the chance to grab it as I dove in,” continued Clyne.

Clyne shared a shorter version of the video on TikTok, with Snoop Dogg's hit "Drop It Like It's Hot" playing in the background. "Dropped the ring in the gulf during my proposal," the text over the video read, along with a surprised face emoji. While his fiancée first reacted in "full panic mode," she ended up having a good laugh over it. The video ended with a photo of them kissing and the words: "She still said yes."
