In a tragic turn of events, a man drowned to death while on his honeymoon in Hawaii. To make matters even worse the tragedy-struck couple was also robbed of their rental car and other valuables while the man was calling out for help before drowning. The incident occurred while Steven Phan and his wife Brittany were celebrating their new life together in Honolulu on June 1 by snorkeling on the electric beach. Phan was missing under surf until a spear fisherman pulled him out and practiced CPR to bring him back to his senses, per NY Post.

Before the first responders could arrive Phan lost his battle for life as his grieving wife of three months witnessed it all, per KTIV. “As If this could not be worse, all of Brittany and Steven’s belongings were stolen, the thieves took their cell phones, wallets, money, clothing, they even stole their car rental,” the GoFundMe page reads. "That's just unreal, you question that person as a human being," said spear fisherman Shin Tamashiro per ABC4 affiliate KITV. "People, they don't have the decency, integrity, it's just morals I guess," he added. On the other hand, John Titchen, chief of Honolulu's Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Services Division said, "It's tragic to see these circumstances like yesterday."

"This is a place where we have long known we need more of an ocean safety presence," Titchen said. "And so any time we see a case like this before we can get set up and get in here and get established, it's heartbreaking," the chief added as he condoled the kins and friends of the victim. The city has taken into account the community's concerns regarding the need for more first responders along the coastline and has responded by planning to install a new lifeguard tower at the beach.

This decision aims to enhance safety measures and ensure that swimmers and beachgoers receive timely assistance in case of emergencies. The GoFundMe page reads, “The loss of Steven Phan is absolutely devasting to the Phan and Myers family and friends. We are all shocked, in disbelief, and heartbroken at the loss of such a great man as Steven. Steven always found a way to be a part of everyone’s lives, no matter the distance. Steven was a true friend and an amazing husband, Steven will be incredibly missed by all.” Meanwhile, the Honolulu police are continuing with the investigation to nab the burglars who robbed Phan when he could be saved.
