Last week, in El Paso, Texas, authorities detained a man in connection with the alleged assault and attempted kidnapping of a pregnant real estate agent in Tucson, Arizona. According to court papers obtained by KOLD News 13, Juan Nunley Jr. was captured Wednesday and held as a fugitive from Arizona in the El Paso County Jail using the pseudonym Donasti Davonsiea.
Nunley reportedly assaulted the pregnant real estate agent with a firearm and attempted to restrain her near Glenn Street and Mountain Avenue on October 8 in Tucson while she was giving a home tour to a possible buyer. The real estate agent was able to flee and phone 911. Once authorities arrived, they were able to identify Nunley as the suspect with the help of interviews and evidence.
The victim reportedly miscarried three days later as a result of her injuries, but has since been released from the hospital, and is recovering with her family. Detectives secured an arrest warrant as a result of their investigation, and authorities were offering a $13,000 reward for information leading to Nunley's capture. "Donasti should be considered armed and dangerous – do not approach him if he is located. The Tucson Police Department is actively searching for Donasti Davonsiea," the department had said at the time. Nunley was taken into custody in El Paso, according to the Tucson Police Department.
According to Arizona Department of Corrections documents obtained by Tucson.com, Nunley has been convicted of crimes and sentenced to prison many times in Pima and Graham counties in Arizona over the last two decades. He was sentenced to 212 years in prison for burglary in Pima County in 2003; he was sentenced to three years in prison for weapons misbehavior and escape in Pima County in 2003. He was sentenced to 312 years in prison for firearms misconduct in Pima County in 2011, 312 years in prison for theft and trafficking in stolen items in 2015, and two years in prison for escape in Graham County in 2018.
On Sunday, it was unclear when Nunley would be extradited to Tucson or whether he had a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.
A similar incident in which anesthetist Giovanni Quintella Bezerra was held for assaulting a pregnant woman was reported by Globo. The 32-year-old reportedly put the woman under a lot of sedation during a C-section procedure before attacking her, according to reports. Bezerra was arrested on accusations of rape after being seen on camera assaulting the woman at the Hospital da Mulher in So Joo de Meriti, Rio de Janeiro. He used to provide enormous doses of sedatives to expectant moms, and his employees had begun to be wary of him. The employees reportedly changed the delivery room so they could take pictures of the act.
