"I love that you're a mom and that's your priority," Matt Damon told Lucy when they began getting to know each other.
Matt Damon has a unique story of his love that he recently shared on air. The Oscar winner revealed that he met his wife, Luciana Barroso Damon, exactly 20 years ago on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The 52-year-old actor, couldn't help but draw attention to a fortuitous link to Michael Jordan while promoting his new movie, Air, per PEOPLE. It was when Damon was filming the comedy, Stuck on You, in Miami Beach, Florida, in 2003, that he first met his wife.
"It's really weird. The movie Air is opening today, and we realized that Michael Jordan wore two numbers in his career, 45 and 23, and the date is 4/5/23, Isn't that crazy? But much more importantly, it's 20 years since I met Lucy," shared the actor with utter surprise as he reminisced about the first time he met the love of his life. The actor also went on to relate the numerological inferences he gathered from his recent work as he walked down the alleys of sweet memories with Lucy.
"We definitely had a connection right away; it was so easy to talk to each other. We were very comfortable [with each other], and by the end of the night, he invited me to go out with his friends,” Lucy told Vogue Australia. “But I was like, 'I can't, I have a 4-year-old daughter, I'm not going anywhere' … and that was one of the things he loved, that I had a daughter," she added. Matt was accompanied by Lucy and her daughter, Alexia, during the European filming of his movie Ocean's Twelve.
In December 2005, Damon, 46, and Lucy were united in marriage during a small ceremony in New York City.
Born in Argentina and fluent in Spanish, Lucy shared that the fact that she was a mom was admired the most by Damon when they got to know each other. "He said, 'I love that you're a mom and that's your priority.' Some guys might have been different, they might think it's complicated, but for him, it wasn't," she continued. "When you meet somebody that you have a connection with, that's just the person that you have a connection with. All the other stuff — the movie-star part — wasn't really a factor. To me, he's just Matt," she opened up as she shared about her loveable partner.
For the recent Los Angeles premiere of Air, Damon was accompanied by his wife, three of their four children, and other family members in a rare family outing. Isabella, 16, sported a gray floral dress with black lace trim, while Gia, the 14-year-old daughter of the Bourne Identity actor, smiled and giggled as she stood together next to her mom in a black flowery dress with layered necklaces and her hair pulled up for the occasion. Stella, 12, stood next to her, dressed in a silky black flowery skirt and a long-sleeved shirt with a corset-like design in black.
