A lot of the unexplored aspects of the actor's life are being revealed in his memoir, 'Greenlights'. This incident is one of them.
Matthew McConaughey has been making headlines with the sensational revelations in his new memoir, Greenlights, and honestly, we can't get enough of it. The latest one is a confession that he never made until now, a secret well kept and a dark one too.
The Dallas Buyers Club actor revealed that he was assaulted as a teen by a man in the back of a van. He wrote, "I was molested by a man when I was 18 while knocked unconscious in the back of a van.” That's not it, he also revealed that when he was 15 he was "blackmailed" into losing his virginity, reported The Daily Mail.
Elaborating he said, “I was blackmailed into having s*x for the first time when I was 15. I was certain I was going to hell for the premarital sex. Today, I am merely certain that I hope that’s not the case."
Even though the 50-year-old Oscar-winning actor has seen some dark days, he's only concentrated on the positive sides. "I’ve never felt like a victim. I have a lot of proof that the world is conspiring to make me happy," he wrote.
The father-of-three supported the University Of Texas' Rape Elimination Program back in 2016 as he helped the students get home from the campus after dark. He was seen and pictured taking people home in a golf cart. How cool is that!
In his memoir, he also shed some light on the turbulent relationship of his parents Kay and James Donald McConaughey. He claimed that there was a time when his mother, Kay broke his father James' nose and held a knife at him during an argument, reported The Sun.
McConaughey also claimed that his father once broke his mother's middle finger. It's interesting that the Interstellar actor's parents were not only married three times but divorced twice as well. He disclosed that when Kay was in the hospital giving birth to Matthew, James was drinking at the bar. But even after all of this, he says that he grew up in a loving family and the volatile nature "was part of the beauty of our family."
While talking to The New York Times promoting Greenlight, he discussed his parents in detail and said, "The love was real. The passion was real. This is the reality, but there’s humanity in that reality."
If you think the actor grew up without any thrashings, then you're wrong. McConaughey revealed that his father was a strict man who was tough on all his three kids but it only taught them how to become better people in life. “I wouldn’t give back one a*s-whupping I got for the values that are ingrained in me," he said.
James died of a heart attack in 1992 in exactly the way he had predicted. “I got a call from my Mom. ‘Your dad died,’” McConaughey wrote in his book, according to Vanity Fair. “My knees buckled. I couldn’t believe it. He was my dad. Nobody or nothing could kill him. Except for mom. He’d always told me and my brothers, ‘Boys, when I go, I’m gonna be makin’ love to your mother.’ And that’s what happened. He had a heart attack when he climaxed.”
Kay has read her son's memoir and wishes he had reflected more of the "affection" that she shared with James along with the troubles. She told the New York Times, "It was a rocky and passionate love affair we had, but I do wish Matthew would have told more of the stories about me and his dad’s love, affection, and commitment to each other."
