Matthew Perry, best known for the role of Chandler on the famous sitcom Friends, was engaged to Molly Hurwitz.
Matthew Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing in FRIENDS, has split from his 29-year-old fiancée, Molly Hurwitz. "Sometimes things just don't work out and this is one of them," the actor said in a statement, according to People. "I wish Molly the best." They got engaged in November 2020.
The news of their split comes shortly after it was announced that Hurwitz wanted to put their wedding plans on hold following reports that Perry had sought out dates with other women on a dating app while the two were on a break. Sounds similar to one of the plot lines from the show, doesn't it? Except, this time it was true.
The couple, who started dating in 2018, was reportedly on a break before they got engaged. Even though 51-year-old Perry's age gap with his girlfriend is more than two decades, he went looking for even younger women during the time they were on a break. Hurwitz put the wedding on hold, as per The Sun, after finding out that he "flirted with other women on a dating app during their break." A 20-year-old woman, TikTok user and influencer, Kate Haralson, had recently exposed the 17 Again actor.
He had flirted with her when they matched on networking app Raya. She was only 19 at the time while Perry was 50. A source revealed that his 29-year-old fiancee has put a pause on the wedding planning since the scandal.
"It's got to be upsetting for her to know he was pursuing other girls the moment they split up. Matt doesn't see how he should be punished – he didn't cheat. But Molly wants to take a breather and see where they're at in a couple of months. She must be asking herself what kind of guy she's really be marrying," the insider added.
It makes sense that the 29-year-old wants to take her time since the actor was not just ready to date as soon as they were on a break but also sought out far younger women.
Haralson told PageSix, as per The Sun, that she met the actor on membership-based, social network app Raya when she was only 19 in May 2020. She added that Perry wanted to speak on FaceTime almost as soon as they began talking to each other. The personal assistant, who is based in Los Angeles, said that he wasn't the first celebrity she matched with. However, he was the first "older" guy she spoke to. She wanted to chat with the actor since she thought it would "be funny" and said she "thought nothing of it."
She was also thrown out of Raya for exposing Perry. "I should have expected that would happen,” says Haralson, now 20, to PageSix. "I feel fine about it. I never really used it anymore anyways," she added. She had shared a now-deleted video of her FaceTiming with Perry, which was in violation of the app's rules.
She had said that they started a game of 20 questions to know each other better and none of the questions were sexual, but she was uncomfortable that he didn't mind how young she was, according to The Sun.
"I don't think he minded that," she said. "It kind of felt weird talking to someone my dad’s age and it just felt not right, especially when he knew how young I was.”
He had been secretly dating Hurwitz since 2018, and they went Instagram official in December 2020. He had shared the photo of his fiancée on social media for the first time. He has been battling drug and alcohol addiction for decades, and is now "sober and doing better than he has in a long time."
According to In Touch, Matthew is "happier than ever," as "between reestablishing his AA program” and “having Molly in his life," he's turned his life for the better. "She literally gave him something to live for," the source added. The 29-year-old's parents were "ecstatic" that Perry proposed. He went about the traditional way and asked her father for her hand in marriage.
However, this episode took a toll on his relationship with his former fiancée.
