Also, her warm smile that has reminded people of Lady Diana more than once, is hard to miss!
With her husband Duke Harry, Meghan Markle arrived at her last royal event, the Commonwealth Day service on March 9, 2020, looking like a dream. She wore a green sheath dress and an elaborate, netted hat and waved at the paparazzi with a dazzling smile on her face.
Ever since her appearance, her fans and admirers can't stop gushing about her smart and stylish look. Also, they were quick to notice that Meghan in fact recreated one of Princess Diana's popular looks from the 80s. One might think that this could just be a happy coincidence, but the detailing of her hat and choice of color does indicate that it could have been a subtle tribute from her side to the woman on whose footprints she is, most likely, following. The kind yet fierce princess was known to break free from all norms that were weighing her down and causing harm to her — Meghan, today, is doing the same thing.
Nearly 40 years ago, when Princess Diana was pregnant with Prince William she stepped out with other members of the royal family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace following the Trooping the Colour ceremony donning a deep emerald green dress and a fascinator with net detailing, reports E!Online.
So when Meghan came out for a royal event wearing a similar dress and a strikingly similar hat that Princess Diana wore in 1982, it was hard not to stand up and take notice.
But this isn't the first time that the Duchess has recreated her late fashion icon mom-in-law's looks. She was seen sporting dresses and fashion choices similar to Diana's, on multiple occasions.
Furthermore, Meghan and lady Diana's love for netted hats is also noteworthy. While there are several occasions when the former actress was seen wearing hats, she chose the netted ones a few times.
Although it has not been confirmed if Meghan's choice of dress for her last royal event was a pre-planned move, one can't help but think that it is indeed a subtle nod to her mom-in-law because from the very beginning Meghan exuded Princess Diana vibes. Be it hugging children on her royal tours or being kind to the needy and sick or politely yet fiercely putting forward her opinions, she reminded many of the people's princess.
Not to mention, the biggest decision of snipping ties with the royal family which is one of the most striking similarity between the two. Also, both of them wanting a normal life for their children, even not giving them typical royal names, repeatedly show people that Meghan and Harry (of course!) are deeply in touch with the late Princess' values and want to carry it forward.
As for Meghan's green dress, it was a fitting tribute to one fashionista from another!
