"He's nothing but supportive, and he's super smart," McCarthy said of her husband.
Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone are one of Hollywood's funniest couples. The actors have known each other for decades and first crossed paths in the '90s when they were in school. They were later reintroduced years later in when they joined the same comedy class in Los Angeles.

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, McCarthy and Falcone revealed that they knew of each other when she was a freshman in college and Falcone was in high school. Falcone joked that at the time he was "afraid" of his future wife. "She was very, very goth," he said. "All my friends at that age were like, 'I wish my mom would let me dress like her.' It was probably dead of summer and she had a very heavy cape and a nice shade of blue hair," he recalled. "And his eyes just went to hearts!" the Thunder Force actress added.
Over the years, they've shared screens in hilarious films like Bridesmaids, Spy, as well as the Netflix rom-com, God's Favorite Idiot. Falcone often has a cameo in most of McCarthy's work. What she loves about Falcone is his sense of humor. "He's nothing but supportive, and he's super smart," McCarthy told PEOPLE of her comedy producer husband. "He makes me gut-laugh, like crazy gut-laugh, four or five times a day. I hit the jackpot!"

Falcone popped the big question in 2004 and told Variety in 2014, "I knew her favorite place in Los Angeles was this beautiful house that we lived in. She’s a homebody. I was like, OK, let’s keep it simple. I’ll propose to her on the porch. I called her folks. Now I’m really nervous. I get bagels and iced coffee, and I’m dressed nice. It’s a Saturday morning." The Tammy star was so nervous he called out to her using her name as he nervously readied himself for the big moment. McCarthy said, "He keeps saying, “Melissa! Melissa!” He normally doesn’t call me Melissa. He calls me Mooch. I thought, 'Is he breaking up with me? Am I in trouble?'"

He then takes his girlfriend out onto the back porch, and they heard a knock on the door. The actor didn't know that McCarthy had called the contractor to redo the bathroom tiles that day! McCarthy explained, "I love a house project. But it was worse. I think I was switching out the toilet. That was at 9 in the morning, and it took all day." Falcone then began weighing his options, thinking about taking her to the dog park they liked, but he didn't think it was an appropriate place to propose. "Finally, the guy leaves, and as the door shuts, she’s watching an autopsy show on TV and playing Tetris. I run at her full speed and I say, ‘Melissa will you marry me!?’"
McCarthy joked, "He screamed at me like he hates me." But then she said she got emotional and broke down. "He eventually said, 'I’m going to need you to answer me.' I was just crying. I didn’t realize I hadn’t answered, because I was so overwhelmed." And the couple has been happily married ever since!
