Michelle Williams said, “I always say to Matilda, ‘Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes.'"
It hasn't been easy for Michelle Williams and her daughter, Matilda to accept the death of Heath Ledger who died in 2008 due to an accidental prescription drug overdose. At the time of his death, Matilda was just two years old. Though the mother-daughter duo together sailed through the difficult times, it was not easy for Williams to do it all alone without Ledger by her side. In an interview with PEOPLE Williams opened up about raising her daughter Matilda alone and parenting as a single mother. She said, “In all honesty, for pretty much everything else, I feel like I’m a believer in not fighting circumstances, accepting where you are and where you’ve been." She added that she "would be able to go totally down that line of thinking were it not for Matilda not having her dad. You know, that’s just something that doesn’t… I mean, it just won’t ever be right.”
In another interview with Vanity Fair, Williams said that "it’s scary" to be a single parent when "that element of provider and protection is missing." However, she always lets her daughter know how loving and accepting her father was. Williams said, “I always say to Matilda, ‘Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes.'"
Williams and Ledger had dated for three years after meeting at the sets of Brokeback Mountain in 2005. However, they separated five months before his death.
Since his death, Williams has made a name for herself with movies like My Week With Marilyn, Blue Valentine, Manchester by the Sea, Brokeback Mountain, All the Money in the World, The Greatest Showman, Venom, and its sequel, Let There Be Carnage. She also found love again in her husband, Thomas Kail. They met in 2018 when she was acting in a mini-series Fosse/Verdon, he was producing and directing the series. At that time, they both were in serious relationships with other people. Once those relationships ended, William and Kail found their way to each other and started dating. They welcomed their son Hart together and got engaged within a year and married in 2020.
The couple is happily married and is expanding their family. They recently brought their second child, Williams' third into the world. On October 29, Saturday, the actress was spotted holding an infant while on a family walk. Williams was all smiles with the newborn baby strapped to her chest in a white onesie, as reported by PEOPLE. The name and gender of the child are not revealed to the public.
Talking about children, she said, “As the years go on, you sort of wonder what they might hold for you or not hold for you.” Williams continued, “It’s exciting to discover that something you want, again and again, is available one more time. That good fortune is not lost on me or my family,” per Variety.
