A man is facing murder charges after shooting and killing his girlfriend, a mother to a young 3-year-old after she refused to have a child with him.

The San Antonio Police Department told KENS5 that the incident took place on Thursday, April 6, in the 1000 block of Capitol Avenue. An officer patrolling the neighborhood at about 6:30 a.m. discovered the victim, Jade Alyssa Alvarez, 22, with terrifying gunshot wounds. The suspect, Adam Byrd, a 23-year-old man, was dating Alvarez.

Byrd has now been charged with the murder of Alvarez, just days after he was arrested for committing an armed robbery of a store, per the New York Post. A woman who claimed to have been with Alvarez the day before the incident was questioned by authorities.

She was able to provide authorities with proof that Alvarez and Byrd had met the day before she died. On April 6, at about 11:00 p.m., the woman gave Alvarez a ride to Capitol Avenue. Alvarez was using the woman's phone to contact Byrd. She informed law enforcement that Alvarez told her that Byrd had requested her to meet him at Capitol Avenue, per Crime Online.

Byrd confessed to shooting and killing Alvarez with the same gun he used in the burglary when he was interrogated after being arrested on the robbery warrant. He supposedly intended to have a child with the victim, but she was against it, so they got into a fight. She was eventually shot and died, and he fled.

Her close friends paid tribute to Alvarez in an online obituary, expressing that she was "taken from us too soon." The obituary reads, "She graduated high school in 2018 and worked in the food industry, and planned to attend college in the fall. She is survived by her 3-year-old son, Jeremiah Rodriguez, and his father, Angelo Rodriguez."

The obituary also shared details about her funeral service, adding, "Visitation will begin on Sunday, April 16th at 3:00 P.M. with a Rosary to be recited at 5:00 P.M. at the Angelus Chapel. Services will conclude at the funeral home."

A Facebook friend of Alvarez's remembered her, sharing that she had the most "contagious" smile. She wrote, "Jade Alyssa Alvarez, you will be truly missed by everyone. Your smile was so contagious and welcoming. Losing you will be felt for many years to come. Knowing that you are now with our Heavenly Father brings comfort to our hearts."

Another Facebook post reads, "Our Jade has gone to the angels above. Where there's nothing but happiness, joy and love. Gone from this world, so full of strife. Back to the God who gave her life. But rejoice that God chose our sweet flower for his own, And has taken her back to his heavenly home."
