In a horrifying incident, a 12-day-old baby was viciously attacked by a pet dog at South Yorkshire, reported The Daily Mail. The newborn baby had been resting in his basket in the family room when the three-foot-tall Chow Chow crossbreed, Teddy, grabbed him in his jaws.
The dog, who escaped his pen and attacked the little one refused to let go of him as the baby's dad and brother tried to save him. The child's mother Abigail Ellis, 27, was upstairs in their home's bathroom unaware of the incident.
Abigail's brother said that the incident has left her in bits. "She’s lost her baby, and her son saw it all." Defending the dog he said that the dog probably must've been "jealous when the new baby came along and all the attention he was getting." He added, "It wasn’t her fault or Steve’s but simply a tragic accident and her son witnessed the attack. It will effect them all forever. They’ll never get over it."
And it's true, devastated by her son's death, Abigail screamed "I will never forgive myself" just moments after she got to know about the horrific attack. According to The Mirror, she told her friend that she cannot look at her $129,643 house the same way. It has become the place where she's only received sadness.
Talking to her neighbor, Linda Siddle, about the heartbreaking attack, she said, “I can’t get over this. I can’t get over this. I might never go back to that house." Before losing her son, identified as Elon, she lost her long-term partner and father in the same house. Abigail told Linda that she had been struggling with anxiety since her partner Joel Smart's death due to heart problems and possibly, sepsis.
It was Linda who revealed how Abigail rushed into the street screaming just moments after her dog attacked her son. Even Linda couldn't stop her tears from falling down as she recalled that day and said that she will spend her life “trying to forget” what she witnessed on the day of the attack.
The mum-of-one said, “I was just trying to console her, what can you even do in a situation like that. She was hysterical, crying and screaming, I’ve never seen her like that before."
Referring to her son's loss being the third one for Abigail, she continued, “Her world has just fallen apart and I just hope she can get the support she needs to get through this. But what she’s suffered through, what she’s experienced, no one should ever have to. I went into the house and I will spend my life trying to forget what I saw.”
With the hope that Abigail, whom she saw grow up into the strong woman she is, Linda said, “She needs our help and our support because what she’s going through right now is unimaginable. I hope she comes back because we all love her here. This is her home, we are her family. But she won’t come back for a while, how could anyone?”
The 58-year-old woman then revealed that the young mother "worshipped" her father who passed away in 2013. Joel, who passed away in 2018, was her childhood sweetheart. Both their deaths made Abigail, a “brilliant, caring, and loving” mother, absolutely vulnerable.
She said, “She gave everything she ever had for her kids despite everything she’d gone through. Losing three people she loved with all of her heart - it’s not something anyone should ever have to go through."
She continued, “When her dad died it completely devastated her. And then Joel was alive one day, and then dead the next. I can’t believe all she’s had to fight in her young life.”
According to Linda, Abigail was excited to start a new life with her "fantastic" partner Stephen Joynes as they welcomed their little son Elon. “She was so excited about this baby. She was so excited. I can’t believe this, still," she said and added, "It was a new chapter in her life, after everything she’d been through, she was so excited to start something so beautiful with Stephen."
She added, “And it ended in 12 days in complete tragedy. You don’t expect a parent to bury their own child, never. They’re a family that just want to be happy - and she deserves that, she really does.” Abigail's three children are staying with her mother right now but are "suffering," revealed Linda.
"The dog was removed from the address on Sunday and will remain in secure kennels until inquiries have been completed," said the South Yorkshire Police. Everyone who knows about the devastating ordeal has expressed their condolences with floral tributes.
The mom-of-three and fiancé Stephen Joynes were arrested by the officials on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter but have been bailed as the cops are still investigating the little baby's tragic death.
