Cancer is one word whose tiniest mention breaks not only the victim but the dear ones of those suffering from it as well. And after they pass, it's their fond memories that give their loved ones something to remember them by. But what would you say when a message is sent from beyond the grave?
Newlywed Gemma Sisson, a bodybuilder by profession, passed away on July 22 after a tough two-year-long with cancer, but her death came along with a heart-wrenching message on Facebook which left her husband and family completely stunned.
The message opened with a moving sentence, "If this is being posted it means I’ve finally died after weeks of clinging on far too long." Gemma took her last breath in her husband's arm just four days after the couple celebrated their "two-month anniversary" with takeout from her favorite place at the Sue Ryder Wheatfields hospice which is also the place where she got married to her partner, Ricky Moore, four days after being admitted. She spent her last four weeks under their supervision.
The post which appeared on her Facebook page just hours after her death also read, "Although I’ll be heartbroken to leave behind all my loved ones I’ll be so glad to get away from what this b****** disease has left me as."
"I really hope that by sharing my cancer story and petitioning for secondary cancers scans to be made mandatory I’ve made a positive impact, and even if only one person gets some help from this then I will feel like I have accomplished something good."
"I really can’t thank Rick enough who has been by side all the way and given me an amazing amount of love and support throughout this horrific time." Even in her final moments, in the hopes of reassuring her close ones, she said "I'm now finally at peace" since her pain and suffering have stopped, as reported by The Mirror. She continued, "I am also grateful for all the support I have received from all of my followers on social media."
"If anyone is going to take anything from this, it is that life is short and that we all think these sort of things will never happen to us... Well I thought that, and let me tell you now, this could happen to anyone of you reading this."
She concluded her tearjerking message saying, "So live your life to the fullest, don't take anything or anyone for granted because none of us really know what is around the corner.
"But I am definitely glad that my time is now up, see you on the flip side mother f*******!"
According to The Daily Mail, the gym-lover from Leeds, West Yorkshire, was diagnosed in April 2018 with pelvic cancer and immediately began with exhausting radiotherapy after which she received a year of aftercare. Unfortunately in July 2019, just months after getting an all-clear, she received the most shocking news. Her cancer had relapsed and had spread to her spine, liver, and stomach, as per the NHS doctors.
After going through a 10-hour operation to repair her spine and multiple treatments along with scans till the end of 2019, in 2020, right after she celebrated her 39th birthday, she was given the tragic news. She only had a few months to live.
She had to go through a 10-hour operation to try and repair her spine where cancer had taken hold. She was moved to the hospice on April 13 as her cancer got worse. She was warned she had only seven days but she fought for weeks.
Ricky revealed that they had been together for 16 years and in May, they finally decided to cement their relationship by tying the knot at the hospice within four days of her admission after getting special permission to hold the ceremony.
Replying to his late wife's message, Ricky replied, "❤RIP to my Angel Mrs. Bear❤
"You died at 1.15 PM today just as you had wished, which was to go peacefully in my arms, just the two of us with nobody else around. You are now finally at peace Gemma -❤My best friend❤My wife❤My family ❤My lover❤My confidant❤My business advisor. You were everything I ever needed or wanted all wrapped up into one amazing human being," reported The Mirror.
He continued, "You have been forever by my side since we met on 30/8/2004! 16 years together my loved one. And I will carry on loving you forever till the day I die. A massive part of me is now broken that can never be repaired but I have made you a promise, which is that I am going to live every single minute of the rest of my life making you f****** proud!!"
"And I know you're going to be watching over my every move to make sure that I keep my promise! I look forward to seeing you on the other side soon my princess, and you best have that strawberry Daiquiri ready for me," he added.
He concluded saying, "Until we meet again my beautiful wife Mrs Gemma Sisson-Moore."
Fighting her own battle she started a petition where she demanded a full body scan for cancer patients before being given an all-clear and changes in the law to protect those who are suffering, according to The Chronicle.
