"Today's tragic news is heartbreaking for all members of the Buccaneers family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna, and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time," the Buccaneers said in a statement released on social media. "While no words can provide true comfort at a time such as this, we offer our support and love as they begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Arrayah."
The circumstances surrounding the drowning were not disclosed by the police, but they did clarify that the inquiry is still ongoing and that the tragedy was "purely accidental." The Tampa Police Department’s statement obtained by ESPN further states, "It is not believed to be suspicious in nature at this time, but a purely accidental and tragic incident."
Shaquil Barrett had four children, with Arrayah Bennett being the youngest. Barrett recently celebrated Arrayah's birthday by sharing a photo on Instagram. "Happy 2nd bday to my cutie girl," Barrett wrote in the post. "So sweet and cute. You made our family complete. I love you, baby girl."
Arrayah was truly loved by the NFL player a lot. When she turned one, last year, the player posted an adorable tribute to her sharing that she's always "putting a smile" on his face. "My cute girl is 1 today. Happy bday girl Daddy loves you. You're too adorable. I'm so thankful you came into our lives and your energy is unmatched. Thanks for always putting a smile on my face baby girl!" he wrote on Instagram at the time.
Tom Brady, a retired quarterback, expressed his sympathy to the Barrett family on Instagram on April 30 night by writing, "The Bradys love you."
Shaquil Barrett, 30, is a two-time Super Bowl champion, two-time Pro Bowl selection, and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers player. He previously played for the Denver Broncos and is in his fifth season with the team.
