In the video, which was shared on her Instagram Story, the little one can be seen interacting with his momma.
Nick Cannon and his partner, model Alyssa Scott, are mourning the loss of their 5-month-old son Zen, who died on December 7, 2021 due to a brain tumor. According to E!Online, the grieving mother took to her Instagram Story to share a video of their child in his memory.
In the heartbreaking clip, Zen can be seen wearing tan corduroy overalls and a T-shirt with cartoon animals, lying flat on his back as Scott asked her son off-camera, "Hi, can you say, ‘Good morning, Daddy?' Can you say, ‘I love you?'"
As a response, Zen cooed, and Scott told her baby boy that dad "loves you too." Zen then smiled and waved.
Cannon made the devastating announcement on The Nick Cannon Show that Zen had passed away after suffering from a medical condition called hydrocephalus, which he described as a "pretty much a malignant, midline brain tumor." According to Cannon, he and Scott noticed that Zen—who was born on June 23 this year—developed an "interesting breathing" pattern when he was two months old, so they took him to the doctor to get his "sinus checked out."
"But by the time we found out that he had another condition. And I think it was called, if I'm not mistaken, fluid that was building up in his head, and that was the cause," he recalled. "His head was starting to get big. When we found out it was more, they called it a malignant tumor in his head. Immediately, we had to have surgery. Brain surgery."
The doctors then put a shunt in his brain to drain the excess fluid out, but by Thanksgiving, the newborn's condition worsened. The young one eventually lost his battle against the growing tumor.
However, just a day after the devastating loss, Cannon went back to work, and faced flak from people for doing so. According to E!Online, he taped another episode of The Nick Cannon Show where he addressed his feelings and responses to what people tell him.
"A lot of people keep asking me, ‘Why you even at work?' Especially my family," he shared on the episode from December 8, 2021. "'Boy you need to go sit down somewhere. You got too many jobs already anyway!' I appreciate all that advice and I know it comes from a place of care but to me this isn't work. This is love."
Apart from little baby Zen, Nick is also dad to his and Mariah Carey's 10-year-old twins Moroccan Cannon and Monroe Cannon. He also shares Golden "Sagon" Cannon, 4, and Powerful Queen Cannon, 12 months, with Brittany Bell, and 5-month-old twins Zion Mixolydian Cannon and Zillion Heir Cannon with Abby De La Rosa.
