Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Jonas got married in 2018 after dating for a few months. Their whirlwind romance is still going strong.
The best relationships are the ones in which the partners can feel at ease with each other. There is no pretense between them and they are accepted for being themselves. It's rare to find a love like that but some people are lucky. One of them, former Disney star Nick Jonas, 28, recently opened up about his marriage with Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas, 38.
Nick, who appeared on Zane Lowe's Apple Music At Home With podcast, said that he felt "unimaginable peace" with his other half. He also revealed that he is looking forward to becoming a father one day. The 28-year-old actor and singer said that "being friends first really helped" him get closer to his wife in the initial stages, according to Daily Mail. "There was a built-in trust because we knew each other first as friends and you've got to be best friends with your person for it, I think, to work..." he added.
Their friendship was a "major factor" in their relationship. "And then also once we really gave it a real shot it was a no-brainer. It was just like, oh. I have said this before, but I describe it as there just being an unimaginable peace that surrounded me and the whole situation that just kind of let me know it was the right thing. And luckily, she was on the same page pretty, pretty quickly. Because, as you know, it all happened very fast… And our third wedding anniversary this year. Those years just kind of go by really quickly when you're having fun. That is true," he added.
The couple has a very modern love story. The Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle actor had initially messaged his wife's Quantico co-star, Graham Rogers, saying, "Priyanka. Is. Wow." He was quoted by EOnline as saying, "That's not the way I talk." Afterward, in September 2016, he messaged the Indian actress.
"I'm hearing from a few mutual friends that we should meet," he wrote to her. "She responded day of with a message that said, 'My team can read this. Why don't you just text me.'" They ended up texting each other for five more months before running into each other in February 2017 at the Vanity Fair Oscars party. Nick reportedly made a grand gesture right as the Bollywood beauty rushed by.
"I put my drink down...get on one knee—this is in front of a bunch of people—and I say, 'You're real. Where have you been all my life?' Like, loud," he said. The couple then had a drink together and she took off for work. They met again three months later, a week before the Met Gala. They had been invited by Ralph Lauren to wear his designs but the designer didn't know about their flirtation.
Soon, they started dating, and it was a whirlwind romance. He proposed just two months after they started dating. "I didn’t expect the proposal at that point... It was two months!" Priyanka told Elle UK. "I thought it would happen, but it was still a complete shock. I relinquished control, and I just went with it. We were just sporadically meeting for about two years [before we started officially dating]. We were texting and stuff, and there may have been a part of me that wanted something serious. But I was taking a hiatus from guys at that point," she added.
"I didn’t want anyone romantically. But there’s always been something about Nick, which is why we always ended up staying in touch, no matter where we were. One thing to know about my husband is that when he makes up his mind, he’ll get what he wants! When he knows, he knows. There’s such a sublime confidence to it that you can’t help but be like, 'Okay.'"
Soon, they will be celebrating their third anniversary in 2021. Nick told the podcast host that his wife and he are "looking forward to" becoming parents one day. "And know that it'll happen when it's supposed to and we're ready for that," he added, as per Daily Mail. They recently announced this year's Oscar nominations together.
Both of them are extremely busy folks and often that means having to schedule time together. The global couple made the rule right at the beginning of their marriage and make sure that they follow it.
"We see each other every three weeks," revealed Priyanka, who recently released her memoir Unfinished. "Wherever we are in the world, we fly to each other at least once a month for a couple of days. It was our rule when we first got married. Otherwise, we’d never see each other," she told Elle.
