While filing for annulment he said that the two of them had drunk to the point of intoxication and he didn't know of her relationship with another person.
Sometimes people make mistakes, and sometimes, that can include getting married. Even when someone has dated a person for many months and known them well, nobody knows who they will be once they have walked down the aisle together. You could land up with an ideal partner or someone with a hidden past. The dark details might not come out until after you have tied the knot.
Actor Nicolas Cage married his then-girlfriend stylist Erika Koike in 2019 and what should have been a happy day was lost in a haze of intoxication. Cage, 56, tied the knot with Koike, 35, in Las Vegas on March 23, 2019, and only four days after the wedding they decided to annul it. They were granted a divorce and not an annulment. The couple had been dating since April 2018, as per USA Today.
The Face/Off actor said he and Koike drank "to the point of intoxication" before getting married and he said that he wasn’t aware of Koike’s "relationship with another person." He also added that she had not disclosed "the full nature and extent of her relationship with another person," and that she didn’t disclose her alleged "criminal history."
"Nic did what he did," said the stylist of their short-lived marriage, as per HollywoodLife. "We’re not going to reconcile or get back together. Nic could have come to me and talked to me, not publicly humiliate me. I’m hurt and mistreated, it’s unfair, but the case is sealed, and my lawyer won’t let me speak until we are all done," she added. To make things worse, she also demanded spousal support from him even though they were married only four days.
The Captain Corelli's Mandolin actor was distraught over the divorce and had closed himself off about it. "There was a recent breakup," Cage said in an interview with The New York Times Magazine. "I don’t really want to talk about it. I was pretty upset about that and the way things happened."
Koike was his fourth wife. Just days after his divorce, he was seen with his third wife, with whom he had the longest marriage. The Mandy star was seen with Alice Kim, 36, and their son, Kal-el Coppola Cage, 14, shopping. He was married to Kim between 2004 and 2016.
When he and Kim separated, The Rock star had said that he was "shocked" by it but that he has no hard feelings for his estranged spouse. The Ghost Rider star hadn't expected their marriage to end.
''It was a shocker for me - I definitely didn't see it coming, and those feelings had to go somewhere, so they went into the performance," he had said, as per RTE. He was asked if he was still in touch with her and he said, "Oh yes, I want to. She was quite young when I married her and I don't really have any ill will towards what happened. That's all I'll say. And now it's like, wow, I'm 54 and I'm single again - I didn't see that coming! It's pretty grim."
Kim was only 19 when the couple met and was working as a waitress. They got engaged only two months after dating and married shortly after in a private ceremony, according to Hello Magazine. When he spoke about their decision to get married then, he'd said, "You can connect the dots. And we did it because we loved each other. I made a very clear decision to marry out of my own zip code. I mean, way out of my own zip code. I married into another culture, and it's interesting because in Korea they call me the Son-in-Law."
Even though they parted ways, he remains friendly with Kim and is often spotted spending time with her and their son. On Father's Day in 2019, he had a long dinner with the two, as per Daily Mail.
He is a dad to another son, Weston, 29, with former partner Christina Fulton, and was married to Lisa Marie Presley for many months in 2002 and Patricia Arquette from 1995 to 2001. Though, he said he doesn't "count" the first two marriages as real, as per RTE. "I don't really count those two marriages, I don't think they belong on my record. The real marriage for me was the 14 years I had with Alice and the child we have together," he said.
