On May 1, actress Nicole Kidman and her husband, country music star Keith Urban, walked the Met Gala red carpet alongside other A-list celebrities. The couple didn't hold back when it came to showing their affection, sharing a tender moment as they nuzzled foreheads, per TODAY.
As the adorable couple walked side by side down the red carpet at the 2023 Met Gala in New York City honoring Karl Lagerfeld, the longtime couple paid a heartfelt tribute to the late German fashion designer. The 55-year-old Oscar-winning actress wore the exact pink tulle dress that she did when she appeared in a Baz Luhrmann-directed Chanel No. 5 commercial in 2004. Almost ten years later, it still fits her like a glove.
"This dress was worn in the Chanel No. 5 commercial that Baz Luhrmann and I did with Karl, who concocted this out of his head," Kidman told La La Anthony on the red carpet, per PEOPLE. "I suppose the way these couture gowns last is because of their exquisiteness," she added, of the vintage dress. "If you take care of them and love them, they are timeless."
"To be able to wear the same thing 20 years later and it still holds...There's whimsy to it," Kidman continued. "It's a feather and it's unbelievably comfortable, but it's all handmade, it's couture and that's what it should be."
The dress, a creation of the French fashion house, had a four-meter train and 3,000 sequins in addition to 250 pink feathers. A tiny black ribbon that dangled gracefully from Kidman's long, golden hair completed the ensemble. She chose platinum-set, about 16.64 carat Winston Cluster diamond chandelier earrings for her jewelry. She also wore a glittering cluster diamond ring, which shone as she and Urban clasped hands.
Kidman's 55-year-old doting husband kept it formal in a black-and-white tuxedo. A white boutonnière and various rings on his fingers served as his accessories. Kidman teased her ensemble on Instagram by releasing two vintage video snippets from the original Chanel No 5 ad in the hours before the pair's Met Gala entrance.
In the first clip, the actress could be seen frolicking across New York City wearing the pink gown. The post was captioned with the phrase, "Running to The Met." The second Instagram video served as more of a memorial to the late fashion designer, as it included archival footage of Lagerfeld planning outfits and working with Kidman in the studio. "For Karl," she wrote as the post's caption, along with a red heart emoji.
