Nicole Kidman Had a Crush on Keith Urban When They First Met but He Didn’t Call Her for 4 Months | “We’re Here Now”

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban met way back in 2005 and share two daughters Sunday, 14, and Faith, 12. Not many people know that the start of their love story took a while to develop. Kidman was instantly smitten with the Australian-American singer when they met at the G'Day USA gala in Los Angeles and the two stars exchanged numbers. But Urban didn't call her for four whole months! "I had such a crush on him and he wasn't interested in me. It's true!" Kidman told Ellen DeGeneres in 2017, per TODAY. "He didn't call me for four months." But their loved story ended up lasting for nearly two decades! "We’re here now and it’s all good. We don’t need to hash up all that stuff, right?" she continued, laughing. "So I should just shut my mouth."

Kidman was in a dark time in her life when she met Urban. She had just had a very public and nasty divorce from Tom Cruise and lost her babies in a traumatic miscarriage that swept away all her confidence. In an interview with Marie Claire in 2020, she admitted that Urban helped save her. The 55-year-old gushed about her musician husband and said, “He just came along and protected me. He’s loved me, given me confidence, and made me so much more comfortable. He knows who I am and he’s opened me up. We have an interesting balance because I’m an introvert and he’s an extrovert."

The Goldfinch actress also stressed that she's an introvert by nature and "pretty quiet" who tends to "withdraw from stressful situations." She added, "I’m not comfortable in crowds. I have trouble public speaking." But the Blue Ain’t Your Color singer balances her out with his extroverted personality. The couple is still affectionate towards each other after all these years together. The award-winning actress looks forward to hugging her kids and Urban after a long hard day, "When I get home, the thing I look forward to the most is being able to hug my children and Keith, and that's the kind of feeling which will always keep us connected."

The Moulin Rouge actress married Urban at St. Patrick's Estate in the beachside suburb of Manly in Sydney in 2006. During an interview with British GQ in 2008 per PEOPLE, Kidman admitted to burning most of her journals when she married the singer. "You can't read somebody's diary. You shouldn't read it. I burnt most of my journals after I remarried," she said. "You're only going to find out bad things." She added that the pair have a healthy marriage, saying, "We're very together. It's a very adventurous, extraordinary place to be: incredibly raw, incredibly dangerous and you're very much out at sea. ... When you commit to someone like that, you live and die together by that decision."
