Nicole has been worried sick about her mom and it was "gut-wrenching" for her to not be there for her 80th birthday.
No matter how old we are, our mothers are precious to us. Most people see Mother's Day as a great occasion to celebrate the most important woman in their lives. It's also a good day to do something wonderful for them. There are people who are grieving their moms on this occasion and hopefully remembering the good times they spent together. But, for those whose moms are miles and miles away, it can be a day of showing them how much they are loved even from a distance.
Moulin Rouge actress Nicole Kidman, a mother-of-four, likely knows how great it feels when your children celebrate you. Deeply attached to her own mom, she describes her as
"my mentor, my guide and my nurturer," as per Sydney Morning Herald.
She spent Mother's Day away from Janelle Kidman, who lives in Sydney, Australia. Nicole has previously talked about how much she loves her mom and a photo she shared on May 10 showed that. She wrote, "I know so many of us are not getting the chance to kiss and hug our Mums today, but to all the Mothers of the world - we are always with you and celebrating you 💕 #MothersDay."
She had a little wish for Mother's Day and the Big Little Lies star told Sydney Morning Herald, "I would love to be able to have a cup of tea with mum and sit on the balcony and talk about life, and have her tell me what I should be doing. I have my immediate family here, but I don't have my extended family, who are so much a part of me. I can't touch them. So many people are in exactly the same position. So many people right now are going, 'When do I see my family again?'"
She, like many others, is separated from her mom and sister who are on another continent due to the lockdown everywhere. Nicole is in Nashville with her husband, Keith Urban, 52, and their daughters Sunday Rose, 11, and Faith Margaret, 9. They plan to use video conferencing apps to connect with Janelle and Nicole's sister Antonia in Sydney as well as Keith's mum Marienne in Queensland. The Australia actress has a special thanks for Keith's mother. "She gave me Keith, she gave me the greatest gift," Kidman said. "And I am down-on-my-knees grateful to her."
This year was even harder for Nicole since she was unable to see her mom in March when Janelle turned 80. "Talk about just gut-wrenching. At least there's FaceTime and technology because that's been a saving grace... It's been really hard," added Nicole. Instead, on her mom's birthday, she shared a beautiful photo of them together, with the caption, "Happy Birthday to my darling Mumma. I love you so much. This photo is so US!"
The devoted daughter planned to move herself and her family to Sydney to be closer to Janelle after a health scare. Janelle has reportedly been ailing and that is what made the Australian actress make this decision. She was first spooked by her cardiac condition two years ago, as per Daily Mail. The family was so prepared to make the move that her and Keith's girls had been enrolled in a school in Sydney but then the pandemic stopped them from moving countries.
She also showed appreciation towards her mom and sister on Women's Day, March 8, in 2020 when she shared a photo of the three of them. Her photo was accompanied with the caption, "We can always use more opportunities to celebrate the deeply special women in our lives. Thinking of my beautiful Mumma and sister @AntoniaKidman today for #InternationalWomensDay".
While she has concerns as a daughter about her mom, she also worries about her children. Nicole told Sydney Morning Herald that her worries are part and parcel of being a mom. "But I try not to have it be contagious in terms of worry, it's more like a 3am worry," she said. "I'm sure a lot of people are waking up at 3am right now."
