Having a family changes people. It puts things into perspective and allows us to grow as people. Whether we learn to balance our lives in a better way or just change our priorities, the shift is perceptible. Being a parent is a job of great responsibility and it's an eye-opening process for most people. It makes men and women grow up and see themselves in a different light too.

For Orlando Bloom, becoming a dad in 2011 was a life-changing event. He and his then-wife Miranda Kerr had their son Flynn nine years ago and life hasn't been the same since. "I won’t spend more than two or three weeks away from him ... [His mom] flies somewhere for work, I take care of Flynn. I go off to work, she takes care of Flynn. Or, you know, we’re together, and we just make it work. We’re not conventional in any way, shape or form ... we’re still pretty loosey-goosey. We’re a bit of a traveling circus," he had said when he was still married to Kerr, as per EOnline.

The couple was married from 2010 to 2013 and they are amicable after the divorce as well. Both of them have moved on. "It was the right thing to do," she said, explaining "We weren’t bringing out the best in each other," as per Marie Claire UK. "There’s no hostility there, we’ll always be friends," she added.

After the divorce, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor realized that he and his ex have to be a part of each other's lives forever for the sake of their son and they have been doing everything to make it work, as per HuffPost.

Even though their marriage didn't work, they work hard at parenting their son together. “Being a father, you know, you kind of have a new sense of responsibility," said Bloom, who is now engaged to Katy Perry, is pregnant with their baby girl.

The 43-year-old Lord of the Rings actor is "excited" for the birth of his daughter. In a remote interview on Good Morning America, he said, "It’s a magical time when an angel pops into the planet, which is what it feels like for me…you know those quiet times at home just you and the family and a little one and nursing and just sort of being present and seeing where you can help and what you can do to nurture a little life into the world."

The couple was supposed to get married in 2020 but the pandemic has forced them to change their plans. Meanwhile, he's prepared for the hard bits of being a parent. "I’m really looking forward to those very late nights where I’ll probably be getting up and doing a bottle, breastfeed-bottle thing because I won’t be obviously breastfeeding, but I’m sure there will be bottles…I’m looking forward to that because I love those quiet times at night when the world feels like it’s asleep and you’ve got a sleeping baby," he added.

He can be this calm and collected since he has had experience raising his son. He acknowledges that his son has transformed his life. "When I was a boy I dreamed of creating a kingdom to share and balance love with life, career, and everything in between, something I didn’t fully comprehend till my son opened my heart. Could not be more grateful," he wrote in an Instagram post once.

One of the primary things he had to change was reign in his impulsive behavior. “I’m still pretty impulsive in some ways, but more conscious of my health and safety. I want to be around to be a big part of Flynn’s life. Bike rides are more thought out, shall we say ― but you’ve still got to live, right?” he said, as per the Independent UK.

He still feels like the "luckiest" man alive thanks to his family. "I haven't spent more than five days apart from Flynn since he was born. He's a real cool cucumber, and he laughs more than he cries. He definitely has a lot of his mother's nature in that respect," he added.
