Patrick Stewart's life transformed from the time he met his wife, Sunny Ozell. Now, they have been married for almost ten years. The Star Trek actor, 81, told PEOPLE, "I've never met anyone like her before". He continued, "She is so smart and so informed. And her intellectual accomplishments are extraordinary. She remembers everything."
The couple first met in 2008 while he was working on a year-long stage production of Macbeth. "She was working as a waitress in a restaurant in Brooklyn," he recalled. "This lovely woman came over and said, 'Gentleman, on the house, what would you like for desserts?' We got talking and she told me how much she'd wanted to see Macbeth, but it had been sold out."
"And I said, 'Well, we're going to Broadway next.' It was the only time in my life I've given someone my telephone number and said, 'Call me, and I can get a ticket.'" Stewart admitted that he was already enamored by Ozell even though he put forth the offer in a business-like manner. That's what they did. She went backstage after the show, they had dinner together. Weeks after the two started dating, Stewart found out that Ozell was a singer. He saw her play at a club in Manhattan and was amazed by her talent.
Four years later, they moved in together and in 2013, they got married. Though that was almost a decade ago, Stewart says that he is still enjoying every moment with his wife. Despite the 38-year age difference between them, Ozell has described their marriage as "very normal and loving." Ozell still can't believe that she is with Patrick.“When something very splashy comes around, like the Emmys or the BAFTAs, I’ve still bowled over that a gal from Reno, Nevada is on the arm of a gent like Patrick Stewart. And frankly, I hope it’s always that way for me,” said in an interview with Female First Magazine.
However, he plans to "go somewhere and just sort of shut down," he said. "I'm looking forward to it very much. Although, my wife believes I'll tolerate it for about two weeks. Then I'll be calling my agent." The couple shares a passion for animals and can often be seen looking for homes for rescue dogs in their social media posts. They also foster a pitbull called Zoe.
