Paul McCartney, the former member of The Beatles, and Heather Mills, his second wife, have a daughter, Beatrice, together.
Sometimes, a person may seem perfect for us but over time we realize that they were not who they said they were. Their real face becomes apparent gradually and we are left dumbfounded at their toxic behavior. There are many people, celebrities and otherwise, who can relate to the double-faced behavior they came to recognize because of a hurtful person in their lives.
When singer Paul McCartney, 78, met Heather Mills, 52, in 1999 at an awards function, he was immediately attracted to her. However, he hadn't been over his wife of 30 years Linda, who died of breast cancer in 1998. He had been looking for a companion and in his haste, he didn't sign a prenup agreement, which cost him dearly later. Heather, a former model, was engaged to filmmaker Chris Terrill when she met McCartney, per Independent.ie. She soon broke it off with to be with Paul.
Mills also didn't have any qualms in criticizing her step-daughter, Stella McCartney. "Every week [Stella] tried to break up our marriage. She was so jealous. She wasn’t interested in her dad’s happiness. I can’t protect her any longer. She’s done some evil, evil things," Mills said. Reportedly, she wasn't happy that Stella wouldn't give her more than 10% discount on her clothing line. Mills, who claimed to be a €250,000 ($280,187) per year catwalk model, didn't have much work to show that it was true.
She also made some tall claims about how every man she met proposed to her within seven days. When she was married to the former Beatles bandmate, he had given her an annual allowance of €460,000 ($515545), a credit card, and jewelry worth €338,000 ($378813). He also wanted to help her set up an office in West London and financed it by giving her €641,000 ($718400).
So, when they decided to part ways after four years of marriage and were finally divorcing in 2008, she continued to demand outrageous amounts of money from him. Mills received $48.6 million in a divorce settlement eventually when she had asked for $250 million. The singer had proposed a $30 million settlement.
On the day of the hearing, she told PEOPLE, "I feel elated. It was worth the hard work." Meanwhile, McCartney, then 65, remarked, "All will be revealed." And, it was. A day after they were divorced, the details of the proceedings were told to the public.
Justice Hugh Bennett’s highly critical comments about Mills had been scathing. "I am driven to the conclusion that much of her evidence, both written and oral, was not just inconsistent and inaccurate but also less than candid," the judge wrote in his ruling. He called many of her requests for financial support, which included proposed yearly budgets of more than $400,000 for private flights, $80,000 for wine, and $250,000 for clothes "ridiculous," "unreasonable, indeed exorbitant."
She received a lump sum of $33 million, and $15 million in real estate, including an English seaside condo, Angel’s Rest, and a countryside home, Pean’s Wood. It became one of the most expensive divorce settlements in its time.
The legendary singer was then estimated to be worth $800 million and he was also expected to pay $70,000 a year in child support for their then 4-year-old daughter Beatrice, now 16, despite having joint custody. He also had to pay for her nanny and private school tuition, additionally.
Even after the settlement, she aired her grievances and tried to say that McCartney was lying about his net worth. "Everybody knows he is worth more than [$1.6 billion]," Mills told PEOPLE. She was also unhappy at the child support amount. She said that her daughter "is obviously meant to travel B class while her father travels A class."
They had been fighting for two years before this settlement was reached and when it did happen, both were ready to move on. "They both realize that to continue with the ‘he said, she said’ isn’t going to do anybody any good. They just want to put it behind them," said a friend of Mills.
McCartney married for the third time to Nancy Shevell, 60, in 2011. They don't have any children together.
