True love is hard to find but Pierce Brosnan managed to find it again after losing his first wife to cancer. He and Keely Smith have been together for the last 25 years and look forward to a future still full of love.
You've heard stories of people marrying their first love or having found them even before they hit adulthood. You might even start to wonder if there is hope for true love later in life. Well, there is and the love story of Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye Smith is the kind that many people crave.
Before these two ever met, Brosnan was married to Cassandra Harris. He loved her deeply and sadly enough, had no choice but to let her go when she lost the battle against ovarian cancer. "There is an incredible cruelty in it all," he told People in 1992, some months after his wife's death. "Losing a person you shared everything with. This is the first time in my life I’ve ever experienced bereavement, and it’s overwhelming."
But the void after his wife's death was soon to be filled when a couple of years later in 1994, he got a second chance at love - with Keely Shaye Smith. And what started was the journey of a happy, loving and long-lasting marriage.
On their very first date, they spoke till 3'o'clock in the morning and could not be dragged away from each other. Brosnan said, "Wherever I went in the world I missed her, and I’d send her tickets to come so we could be together. We just seemed to fit."
It wasn't just Brosnan though. Smith felt the same spark with him and knowing she had found someone special, fell head over heels for him. She said, "He really likes and appreciates women. He’s intelligent, captivating and his real beauty emanates from the soul.”
Still reeling from the loss of his first wife, Keely helped him cope with his grief. “Keely has always been kind and compassionate and encouraged me to mourn Cassie. I think of Cassie all the time..." he said, according to Express. "I suppose Keely is my North Star, always looking out for me."
They fit together like pieces of a puzzle and finally, after being together for about 7 years, they finally wed each other in 2001.
18 years later, they have a wonderful family with two boys, Dylan and Paris, and no matter how many years have passed, the spark that brought them together never died down. "I love her vitality, her passion. When Keely looks at me I go weak at the knees," he said, according to The Sun.
Raising two sons together, Smith is more than happy and grateful to be taking this path of parenthood with Brosnan. On Instagram, she posted a picture saying, "Happy Father's Day to the kindest, funniest, tenderest and most generous Papa. Thank for joining me on this amazing journey and for bringing the joy of children into my life."
Growing old is not an issue for them because they have each other and fall more and more in love every day. "I found a great woman in Keely Shaye," he said. "Not if I searched a million times over would I find one as good." When talking about his wife, he says that she is "a strength I wouldn’t be able to live without."
For so many years, people have seen that their love has never lessened. Inspired, they too hope to find the kind of love, respect, and commitment that Brosnan and Smith share.
