"Go into the world with a brave heart and create stories that will make the world a better place," Pierce Brosnan wrote for his son.
Pierce Brosnan and wife Keely Shaye Smith's boys are all grown up! The couple first met in 1994 and got married in 2001. They have been together for over 20 years and share two sons, Dylan, 26, and Paris, 22. Pierce has one child, Sean, from his previous marriage with his first wife of 11 years, actress Cassandra Harris, who died from ovarian cancer in 1991. The 69-year-old actor adopted Harris' two children, Charlotte and Christopher.
Despite not having a father figure growing up Pierce was determined to have a strong family unit. More recently he beamed with pride as his son Paris graduated. In a sweet tribute, the proud dad wrote on Instagram, "Dearest Paris, Heartfelt congratulations on your graduation from Loyola Marymount University School of Film & Television. Go into the world with a brave heart and create stories that will make the world a better place."
The James Bond actor has been through many personal hardships, including the loss of his wife, but he never gave up. He also had a lonely childhood telling the Guardian, "I was so solitary. And we lived on the outskirts of town, across the River Boyne, I was an outsider. An only child." His father Thomas Brosnan left his small family when Pierce was an infant and his mother left him with her parents. She moved to London to study to be a nurse, according to the Irish Times, and returned to the village in southern Ireland twice a year.
“There were no siblings,” he recalled. “I was an only child from a fractured family. My father took off for the hills very early. And academically, my school days were pretty tough. I needed to figure out what I wanted to do. I was caught up in the English comprehensive school system. I was good at art. I left school with a cardboard folder of drawings and I got a job as a trainee commercial artist.” He left for London in 1964 at the age of 11 and eventually worked in a studio. Soon he found his way through art and film and the rest as they say is history. His first James Bond film in 1995 propelled him to a level of stardom he never imagined. But despite the fame and fortune he was determined to grow his beautiful family.
Brosnan is an extremely loving family man. At the New York premiere of Black Addam last year where Brosnan played a superhero, his wife Keely told PEOPLE, "He's a superhero at home, so why not on the big screen too?" The doting wife shared that it's his kindness that makes him a superhero at home as well. "He has a big heart, generous, warm, kind heart," she said.
Brosnan and his sons, Dylan and Paris, appeared together in a feature on GQ in 2022, where the young Brosnans spoke about growing up with the "007" star as their father. He taught them a lot about "preparation, passion, confidence, and showing up on time." Dylan said has learned a lot of important lessons from his dad, but the most important one is, "Don't be afraid to make fun of yourself."
