People change with time, but love doesn't. Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye truly are couple goals, don't you think?
Love is a funny thing; it comes at us when we least expect it. It seems like a big celebrity falling for a journalist who had come to interview them would happen only in movies, right? Well, this is exactly what happened with Pierce Brosnan and his wife Keely Shaye Smith.
The couple met at a beach party in Mexico in 1994, per Hello! Magazine. Keely was there to interview Cheers actor, Ted Danson, when she started talking to Brosnan and the pair hit it off immediately. "He was captivating. Tall, dark, and handsome," she recalled. "Everything that everybody would immediately be attracted to. He had a mischievous sparkle in his eyes."
For Brosnan, too, the feelings were mutual. He asked her out on a date, which they had a few days later. There, they sat under the stars and held hands. "There were fireworks going off over our heads, and Kenny Loggins was singing. We talked until three in the morning," Keely revealed, per PEOPLE.
They soon began dating, but they realized long distance wasn't easy. Nevertheless, they made it work. "Wherever I went in the world I missed her, and I'd send her tickets to come so we could be together. We just seemed to fit," the James Bond star said.
Three years later in 1997, they welcomed their first child, a son named Dylan and in 2001 the couple welcomed their second, a son named Paris.
Brosnan, who grew up without a father, said he "cherishes his family very much" and loves being a dad. The same year they welcomed their second child, Brosnan and Keely got married in Ireland. It was a super secretive affair, as it took place while Brosnan was starring in the James Bond films.
They said "I do" in front of 100 guests at Ballintubber Abbey in Ireland. Honestly, the fact that the wedding took place itself would have been a relief for everyone, given how it was postponed thrice, per Hello! Magazine.
Years after their wedding, in 2016, Brosnan proved that his love for his wife was ever the same, as he gushed about her during an interview with Independent. "I love her vitality, her passion. She has this strength that I wouldn't be able to live without. When Keely looks at me, I go weak."
As for what makes their marriage work, it's nothing really complicated. “My wife and I took a short road trip up to Santa Barbara — we were going for a romantic weekend and to look at houses and drink great wine,” Brosnan told PEOPLE. “We didn’t listen to any music, but we just listened to the sounds of each other’s voices and sorted out the world.”
In 2021, the couple celebrated twenty years together, and their posts simply prove that they still have so much love left for each other. People change with time, but love doesn't and Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye truly are couple goals, don't you think?
