Brosnan will be seen in DC's next movie 'Black Adam,' portraying the role of Doctor Fate.
Pierce Brosnan is joining the DC Universe, thanks to his role as a superhero in the movie, Black Adam. His wife Keely Shaye Brosnan, 59, thinks he is as much of a "superhero at home." At the New York premiere of the film, Keely told PEOPLE, "He's a superhero at home, so why not on the big screen too?" Keely shared that it's his heart that makes him a superhero at home as well. "He has a big heart, generous, warm, kind heart," she said.

Keely got married to Brosnan in 2001. They share thespian backgrounds, considering she worked as an actress in TV and film in the 1980s. They met in 1994 at a beach party in Mexico and hit it off immediately. However, Brosnan clarified that she does not help him rehearse roles, he does it himself. "No, no. I don't let anyone do that. I do that all by myself," the actor said. "Keely does have a hand in it, of course, but to practice, to rehearse, I rehearse alone."
According to Keely, the secret ingredient to a good marriage is being friends. "Solving problems day in, year after year, liking each other, getting on with each other," Keely said. "Being best friends," Keely added. Last month, Keely celebrated her 59th birthday and her husband wished her on the occasion in an Instagram post. "Happy Birthday my darling @KeelyShayeBrosnan," Brosnan wrote. "I love you dearly. So many years of love, life, work, and play. Onwards we go!"
In 2016, Brosnan told the Independent, "I love her vitality, her passion. She has this strength that I wouldn't be able to live without. When Keely looks at me, I go weak." A year later, he also shared that spending quality time is key to a happy marriage. "My wife and I took a short road trip up to Santa Barbara — we were going for a romantic weekend and to look at houses and drink great wine," Brosnan said at the time. "We didn't listen to any music, but we just listened to the sounds of each other's voices and sorted out the world."
In the upcoming DC movie, Brosnan plays the role of Doctor Fate, a superhero who wears the Helmet of Fate, wields magic, and confronts Black Adam, played by Dwayne Johnson. In a recent interview on The Tonight Show, Brosnan revealed that Tim Burton had auditioned him for the 1989 Batman film but a "stupid" comment cost him his role, according to Variety. “I remember saying something stupid to Tim Burton, I said, ‘You know I can’t understand any man who would wear his underpants outside his trousers.’ But there you go…the best man got the job, and you know Doctor Fate and I were meant to meet on the same page I think,” he said.
Black Adam hits the theaters on October 21, 2022.
