"It was never a question for me," Rumer Willis said of her feelings about becoming a mom.
Rumer Willis has always pictured herself as a mother. Willis discusses her pregnancy and her eagerness to become a mother in an exclusive sneak peek obtained by PEOPLE, of Thursday's episode of Peggy Rometo and Kimberly Van Der Beek's podcast Bathroom Chronicles. Willis, who is expecting her first child with partner Derek Richard Thomas, claims that having children has always been a goal of hers.
"It's like one of those weird things that I know sometimes people have such clarity about, like 'Oh, I want to be a musician, I want this,' and it was never a question for me that I wanted to be a mom," she says. "And that just felt like such a divine purpose and something that when I started thinking about it, felt like such joy."
Willis recollects a conversation with Thomas where she was sharing her exciting experience at the farmers' market. "And the idea of being able to bring my kids in like a little cart or something brings me so much delight, I can't even...I can't wait," she added.
After her pregnancy, Willis understood better the importance of preserving her boundaries. She says that the pregnancy made her "upgrade so fast" from being someone who used to be people-pleasing or not standing up for herself for little things to someone who feels comfortable saying no to things that do not suit her. "I would say literally, maybe even a week after I got pregnant, all of a sudden, it was like, no, no, that's not going to work for me anymore," she added. "It was like a new equation and a new puzzle all of a sudden downloaded," she explains.
The House Bunny actress and Thomas shared a carousel of baby bump images on Instagram in December to announce their first pregnancy together. The carousel, coupled with pictures of Thomas kissing her baby bump, a silhouette of Willis' baby bump, and an excited Thomas, was met with a lot of excitement from friends and family. Willis' sister Scout LaRue Willis wrote, "I'm weep."
The newborn will be Rumer's parents Bruce Willis, 67, and Demi Moore, 60, the first grandchild. Demi, Willis's mother, already assuming the role of a delighted grandma, shared their announcement on her own Instagram page, with the adorable caption, "Entering my hot kooky unhinged grandma era."
Sources even shared that Bruce is extremely excited to be a grandfather. A source shared that Willis is "happy" about his new role spending more time at home with loved ones. "He is happy about becoming a grandpa," the insider told the outlet. "He loves having a big family. They are all spending Christmas together. Bruce is enjoying not working and having more family time. He likes being around his girls more," added the source.
