The most popular read-heads of the UK and arguably, the world, came together for a noble cause.
Times are changing. Once a taboo topic, mental health is finally gaining visibility—thanks to commoners and celebs opening up about their own struggles. There is still a lot to be done, but there is definitely better awareness than there was a decade ago. This World Mental Health Day saw a plethora of celebrities and influencers coming forward to talk about the significance of mental health and break the stigma around it. While social media was flooded with videos and messages related to the subject, one particular video went viral in no time.
Prince Harry and The Shape of You singer, Ed Sheeran teamed up to send out an important message, as reported by CNN. The video will also leave you in chuckles at the opening act, where Ed Shereen is all set to talk about the struggles of being a ginger. Prince Harry is seen discussing his collaboration with Sheeran, and highlights how the Grammy Award-winning singer has the right "skillset" to write a song about "the issue" to begin a dialogue at a larger scale.
"This for me is a subject and conversation, which is just not talked about enough, I think people all over the world are really suffering," Harry is seen saying in a serious tone.
Sheeran agrees as he nods and continues, "People don't understand what it's like for people like us," he says. "With the jokes and snide comments. I just feel like it's time we stood up and said, 'we're not going to take this anymore. We're ginger and we're going to fight," he says.
Shereen does quite an act as he realizes the "issue" at hand is not about standing up for redheads like himself and Harry. And Harry for his part, Harry plays on as he responds with, "Err. Slightly awkward. There must have been a miscommunication. This is about World Mental Health Day."
The two young men then steer the conversation to the real topic, with the intention to get more people to talk, seek help, and be less inhibited by the topics of mental health.
"Guys this World Mental Health Day, reach out, make sure your friends, strangers lookout for anyone who might be suffering in silence; we're all in this together," Prince Harry says.
The video was released with the caption: "Both Prince Harry and Ed Sheeran want to ensure that not just today, but every day, you look after yourself, your friends and those around you."
"There's no need to suffer in silence—share how you're feeling, ask how someone is doing and listen for the answer. Be willing to ask for help when you need it and know that we are all in this together."
Prince Harry is also part of Heads Together, an initiative that Kate Middleton and Prince Harry are also a part of. Meghan Markle, too, has been a champion of holistic well being since her days as an actress. This video talks about why and how the Royal brothers and Kate decided to take up mental health as a worthy cause to champion for.
