Royal expert Lady Colin Campbell believes it would be "the right thing to do" for him to do - to request that his titles be temporarily suspended.
Quite a lot of people agree upon the fact that it's time for Prince Harry to drop his royal title. The petition to do so was launched by royal expert Lady Colin Campbell, author of Meghan and Harry: The Real Story. According to the Independent, the purpose of the Change.org appeal is to invite Prince Harry to “voluntarily” ask the Queen to put his “royal style, titles, and rank into abeyance.”
In January 2020, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle announced that they would step back from senior positions and have since moved to California, hoping for a chance at a normal lifestyle. The couple has also revealed a lot of secrets about the British Royal Family and now, close to 50,000 (at the time of publishing) people agree with Lady Colin, the royal expert who strongly believes it would be "the right thing to do" for him to request his titles are temporarily suspended.
"The purpose is to invite Prince Harry to voluntarily ask The Queen to put his royal style, titles, and rank into abeyance, thereby freeing him from the diplomatic, political, and constitutional constraints that are an inevitable part of royal rank," reads the petition.
"As a purely private citizen, with no royal rank, style, or title, he will be able to indulge his personal beliefs, as is the right of all private citizens. His invitation to The Sovereign, being of his own accord, will resolve conflicts that would otherwise be inevitable, and will permit him to enjoy the credit of having put both national and international interests above his own, personal ones, in the process gaining him the respect that he otherwise will not enjoy."
In an interview with Daily Star, Lady Colin said, "I started it because I think it’s the right thing to do."
"I have spoken to people, many people, who think it’s the right thing to do and it is the solution. It is a dignified solution for all concerned. To humiliate no one and protect everyone. I think it’s a humane way of solving a very regrettable situation." She also added that she believes Harry and Meghan will be able to sell themselves as a brand, even without their royal titles.
"It is the best solution because it frees Harry to be able to indulge himself without consequence and without doing damage to the institution of the monarchy of the British nation, the British people, and himself. So from that point of view, it frees him and he is big enough that he doesn’t need the royal title, he’s gone beyond that, he doesn’t need them, they are shackles that he could well do without."
"He doesn’t need them - he is too big for them now," she said, adding, "He still gets publicity. He still gets action."
"They will still be able to sell their brand, capitalize upon their identity, but at least it will be in a way there can be no confusion about the fact that he is doing it as an individual and not as a member of the royal family that has duties to the nation and to the people of this nation."
