"We’re separate entities. I’m sad about that," Prince William said and expressed his wish of wanting the family to work as a team.
It was not just the public that was left surprised when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their shocking announcement to step back as "senior members of the Royal Family." Even the queen, Prince Charles, and Prince William were unaware of the impending announcement and were taken aback.
Amidst the tense situation, Prince William revealed the hurt he feels after his bond with his brother, Prince Harry changed. Prince William was even upset and expressed his wish of wanting the entire family working as a "team".
Talking about how the recent announcement has affected him, Prince William is reported to have told a friend, "I’ve put my arm around my brother all our lives and I can’t do that anymore," according to Express.
"We’re separate entities. I’m sad about that," Prince William went on to say, according to a report by The Sunday Times. “All we can do, and all I can do, is try and support them and hope that the time comes when we’re all singing from the same page. I want everyone to play on the team.”
For a while now, there were talks and reports about the royal brothers have disagreements over the past few months. But in a documentary titled Harry & Meghan: An African Journey that aired in the US in October 2019, Prince Harry said that no matter what happens, they will always remain brothers through it all.
Prince Harry was asked by the interviewer, "There's been a lot of talk in the press about rifts with your brother. How much of that is true?" as quoted by Harper's Bazaar.
To this, Prince Harry replied, "Part of this role and part of this job, and this family being under the pressure it's under, inevitably stuff happens. But, look, we're brothers, we'll always be brothers. We're certainly on different paths at the moment. But I will always be there for him, as I know he'll always be there for me."
At the time, Prince Harry also added that even though they've been seeing less of each other lately, he still loves his brother the same. "We don't see each other as much as we used to, because we're so busy," Prince Harry said. "But I love him dearly, and the majority of the stuff [reported in the press] … is created out of nothing."
He also added, "Y'know, as brothers, you have good days, you have bad days."
However, after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's latest announcement, Prince William is left "sad" by the turn of events that caught the family off guard.
In her efforts to find a solution that would suit everyone, the Queen has ordered a family summit on January 13, 2020, hoping to talks things through with Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry, based on what palace sources have told People.
The meeting will be taking place at the monarch's country home of Sandringham, Norfolk. Meghan Markle, who is in Vancouver Island, Canada at the moment, might also join in for the discussions via phone.
The palace source said, "Following a series of meetings and consultations across the last few days, there is a range of possibilities for the family to review which take into account the thinking the Sussexes outlined earlier in the week."
Talking about the time it would take for next steps to be decided and implemented for the royal family, the source added, “As we have said previously, making a change to the working life and role of the monarchy for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex requires complex and thoughtful discussions. Next steps will be agreed at the meeting. The request for this to be resolved ‘at pace’ is still Her Majesty’s wish. The aim remains days not weeks. There is genuine agreement and understanding that any decision will take time to be implemented.”
