When Princess Charlotte, the 7-year-old daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton, walked through Westminster Abbey to say goodbye to her great-grandmother, royals fans noticed a beautiful brooch pinned to the young royal's black coat. The Prince and Princess of Wales's only daughter wore a long black coat and hat just like her mother during the service but her small diamond brooch was hard to miss. What was the significance behind it? Since it was shaped like a horseshoe it seemed to reference Princess Charlotte's great-grandmother's passion for horses and riding. It has even more sentimental value as it is believed to have been a gift to the young princess by the late monarch herself, reports PEOPLE.

Curious royal fans also dug deep and discovered that the Queen Mother once wore the piece of jewelry. A person posted on Instagram that the bauble resembled one that was "worn by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in the 1920s." Other Internet users claimed that the brooch was originally a gift from Queen Mary, born in 1867, reports The List

Other royal family members also paid tribute to the late Queen through the pieces of jewelry they wore at the funeral. The Princess of Wales, Kate, wore a pearl choker which was a favorite of the Queen’s and was also once worn by the late Princess Diana in 1982 for a state banquet at Hampton Court Palace. The four-strand pearl necklace is made from pearls gifted to the Queen by the Japanese government, reports Cosmopolitan. It was one of her favorite jewelry pieces, and she's worn it many times during her 70-year reign.

For the Queen's coffin procession, Kate wore a diamond and pearl leaf brooch previously owned by her late grandmother-in-law. The Queen wore the clip during a visit to South Korea way back in 1999. Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex also paid a jewelry-based tribute to the late monarch when her casket was ceremoniously processed through the streets of London. The 41-year-old paired her black ensemble with a pair of pearl-and-diamond earrings, which were gifted to her by Her Majesty. The Queen gifted Meghan with the piece in honor of their first solo outing together in 2018. At the time, the pair spent the night together aboard the royal train to Cheshire, some 200 miles away from London, where they met with community leaders and watched a performance by local school children, reports PEOPLE.
