Lady Kitty Spencer, daughter of Princess Diana's brother Charles, Earl of Spencer, is taking on the fashion world on her own terms.
Princess Diana's niece and the eldest child of Diana’s brother Charles—Kitty Spencer is a model who made a mark by walking many runways. However, when she attended the wedding of her cousin Prince Harry, to Meghan Markle in 2018, the global attention on her has increased drastically. The 28-year-old seems to look a lot like her famous aunt, who was affectionately known as the Queen of Hearts.
She attended Prince Harry's wedding last year dressed in a hand-painted green Dolce & Gabbana dress, and her life changed almost overnight. In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, she said, “It was definitely unexpected. [My Instagram followers] went from 17,000 to half a million in one night. I thought I had someone else’s phone when I woke up the next morning. I had to turn my notifications off because my phone was going to die.”
The resemblance between neice and aunt is uncanny. Both the Spencer women have a profile, with those perfect cheekbones and a strong jawline. The most striking of similarity though is the large, aquamarine eyes. No one can forget Diana, who is one of the most photographed women of all times, and her iconic pictures that focused on her warm, compassionate eyes.
The two women also seem to share a flair for fashion that refuses to be curtailed by the codes that come with being part of the aristocratic family.
Since the high profile wedding, she was made a Bulgari ambassador and has walked the runway in multiple cities. She has been travelling so much that she barely spends time in England. Although, she grew up with her mother Victoria Aitken (a former model herself) in South Africa, a place close to Diana's heart.
She also takes after Lady Diana in championing for women by refusing to stick to beauty norms. She also seems to enjoy channeling her aunt on certain days by picking up styles that Diana made immortal.
The rising star, who doesn't want to use her royalty status for her career, is making a space for herself in the fashion industry on her own terms, much like her daring aunt. “I don’t think it’s my job to starve to fit into an outfit. If I’ve agreed to do something for a brand or whatever, I look after myself but I’m not obsessive or unhealthy. If a brand wants to work with me, and think their designs look good on me, then they can give them to me in my size," she was reported to have said according to Yahoo.
But it isn't just good looks and a great fashion sense that she seemed to have inherited from her aunt. Spencer is involved in many charities and is an ambassador for Centrepoint, a charity that provides support for homeless youth, and she also holds the position of a trustee and patron for the military charity Give Us Time.
