Princess Eugenie and her husband welcomed their first child after more than two years of marriage.
The British royal family has much to celebrate after Princess Eugenie, 30, welcomed her first child. Eugenie, who is married to Jack Brooksbank, revealed the news through an Instagram post, which showed a black-and-white shot of their baby's hand. The child's hand is wrapped around Eugenie's thumb while Brooksbank holds the baby boy's arm. This is their first child together since getting married in 2018.
Eugenie is 10th in line for the throne and is the third of the Queen’s four granddaughters. Her full name is Eugenie Victoria Helena, and she used to have the title of Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie of York. Since getting married to Brooksbank, who is a commoner but has some aristocratic links, she goes by HRH Princess Eugenie, Mrs. Jack Brooksbank, as per Town & Country. Her older sister, Princess Beatrice, is ninth in line for the throne. However, neither of them are ever expected to ascend it.
The baby boy was welcomed on February 9, weighing 8 lbs., 1. oz. This is the ninth great-grandchild for the Queen and Prince Philip, and the first grandchild for Eugenie's parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.
The palace made the baby's announcement saying, "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie was safely delivered of a son today, 9th February 2021, at 0855hrs at The Portland Hospital. Jack Brooksbank was present."
"The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of York, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Mr. and Mrs. George Brooksbank have been informed and are delighted with the news," the statement said. It added that the mother and child were both doing well. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle privately congratulated the new mom, People reported.
Eugenie and Brooksbank have a sweet love story. They met for the first time during a 2010 ski trip in Verbier, Switzerland, as per People. She said it was "love at first sight" and her husband agrees. "We met when I was 20, he was 24," she said. "[We] fell in love. We have the same passions and drive for life."
The 30-year-old shared what she first thought of him in a pre-wedding interview. She revealed, "I thought, 'What a silly hat!' And I thought, 'Who’s that?'" She continued, "And then [looking at Jack], you came over and shook my hand, and I was all butterflies and nervous."
She saw potential in their relationship right from the start and called her mom, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, the same night to tell her about him. She didn't have to wait too long to know how he felt about her. "I remember being like, 'I really, really like this guy, I really want him to like me too,’ and then you gave me this huge windscreen wiper wave and that was it: 'Right, he likes me,'" she said.
They faced a big challenge that can make or break a relationship. They were in a long-distance relationship from 2013 to 2015 while she worked in New York City. "We spend a lot of time on Skype," the new dad had said then to dispel break up rumors. "It’s great. We are still very much together."
Once she returned to the UK, the couple spent a lot of time indoors. "When I'm with Jack, we watch The Walking Dead, which we're obsessed with. Maybe Game of Thrones is our next thing," she had told Harper's Bazaar. "I don't watch reality shows, but I love cooking programs."
She made sure to include him in all important family events like her cousin's weddings. After almost eight years together, he proposed to her during a trip to Nicaragua. "The lake was so beautiful. The light was just a special light I had never seen," the royal was quoted as saying by People. "I actually said, 'This is an incredible moment,' and then he popped the question, which was really surprising even though we have been together seven years. I was over the moon."
They tied the knot in October 2018. "Been the best 2 years married to you and 10 years with you in total," Eugenie wrote on Instagram on their second anniversary.
Congratulations to the couple on this new chapter in their lives!
